I do wonder how many of these prices have been held low with gradual increases in costs being absorbed by manufacturers, but now ingredient & manufacturing costs are still going up the impact must be passed on. It might explain why things seem to be going up a lot quickly, to get them to a price that is actually a realistic reflection of their cost.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Iceland is one of the worst supermarkets I have seen in terms of price jumps.
Hasn't been unusual to see 50p/£1 increases, whereas in Tesco it's been more common to creep up slowly.3 -
Indeed Iceland suddenly seems to have started price rises in the past month or so.
I was wondering if its the fuel prices that have hleped to push them up, as they used to be quite reasonable at one point. Our local one to me closed down and although it wasn't that big it was useful and for older folk in my area who perhaps didn't drive it was a life saver at times as the Tesco Metro in the little precinct charge a little higher than their big superstore about a mile away. But sadly its what the market will pay and perhaps when they see people being even more pikky about what they buy they will bring the prices down a little .We all live in hope at the moment . I have another week on my holiday to go so I know I will notice the rixses even more when I get home to restock stuff

Lidl's very nuttty muesli up from £1.69 to £1.79. Still cheaper than elsewhere but all the 10p's soon add up. Also, their chilled coffee is up from 59p to 69p. It used to be 55p. When I'm finished shopping, I like to treat myself with one. I know it's cheaper than the posher ones but still a 10p rise. It's still a cheap treat though.
Jackie, enjoy yourself and worry about price horrors when you get home. They will still be here. 😕. Can you still make ornaments with colored sand on the IOW? Doing that is one of my happy memories. I find that the good memories help me get through the tough times. ☺️😘3 -
Just updated our tesco shop for tomorrow.
Their sliced cheese gone up by 20%
Their cholesterol lower drink gone up by around 20%
Milk gone up
Apples gone up.
Every week for the past few months almost every thing is up
Lettuce was supposed to be in abundance, gone up by a good 20% over a few weeks

I am doing just that and decided to worry about the prices of stuff when I get home. The weather is glorious ,in fact a bit too hot to even sit on the beach. We will go onto the beach after four when it cools down a bit or the dogs will just get too hot. My eldest DD and her OH are in Zante at the moment, and the weather back home is actually hotter here
DGS Ben is travelling down after he finishes at school at 3.30 so he will be here tonight , and DGSJack is coming down on Monday .DGS Henry is grafting away at his summer job but at least he is in the open air, and Mikey is off to Cypus tomorrow with his pals so we are all getting a break at least

I have fortnightly SM deliveries and make up my list as I go along when things run out or are near to running out. Then I revise the list a day or two before delivery and make any necessary changes. Next week's list has no less than 7 items that have gone up - large tub of Greek yogurt (sm brand) 5p, dripping 5p (if they have it), pack of cooked prawns 18p (Aldi price matched), tub of butter-type fat for baking 10p, cod fillets 25p, large eggs 10p and ketchup 5p (sm's own brand). The overall increase is 78p so probably not too bad in the grand scheme of things but, as has already been mentioned, those 5p/10p/20p increases soon add up.
I don't think we've seen the worst of it yet either (sorry, I'm not usually so pessimistic) so more belt tightening needed. I'm finding we're eating slightly differently too - it certainly challenges the little grey cells!Be kind to others and to yourself too.5 -
I think the price increases will accelerate the trends towards simple ingredients based seasonal cooking. Yes at the moment Brussel sprouts, apples, parsnips are expensive but that's because its July!! For example new potatoes/mince/runner beans should be healthy/nutritious and economical at this time of year.
Personally I can never understand the hysteria about branded products such as Kellogg's/Heinz/Lurpak - buy them if you can afford them and think they are good value for money - if you don't there are plenty of other alternatives. It does feel a bit odd people complaining about the cost of living piling their trolleys high with expensive branded spreads, ketchup and coco pops.4
