Aldi pastry has gone up from 85p two weeks back to 95p today. Although 375g and ready rolled it was the cheapest per 100g. Now I need to survey the prices again...

Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)

I remember reading on one of these threads that somebody was buying Heinz Ketchup at £3 for a large bottle. The Tesco equivalent is £1 (or was the last time I bought it a couple of weeks back). There may be some difference in the taste? I don't know, but I know whatever that difference is, it's not worth £2 to me. By the time you've eaten your way through a kilo bottle of ketchup, your tastebuds probably won't register the difference anymore.
I think there is a difference in taste. I don't mind the cheaper brands of ketchup at all but my husband prefers Heinz above anything else I buy. I even bought an expensive organic ketchup and he didn't like that either.

I forgot to see how much it is on the shelf now in Tesco after their 'issues' with Heinz.
I think that is the secret with a lot of things -swapping about often means something doesn't taste so good (whether it's the cheaper or more expensive) but if you stick to one, it's fine.

    £1.15 in Sainsburys too.

A slightly cheaper option are 500g blocks of Jus Rol for £1.45 (29p per 100g).  Same price for puff pastry or shortcrust.  I make my own shortcrust but admit to buying the puff pastry one that I cut into three portions, one to use immediately and two for the freezer.

They also have a frozen 1kg pack of Jus Rol puff pastry containing 2 blocks for £2.60 (26p per 100g).
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • Lidl’s chocolate or madeira party cakes were £3.99 a couple of weeks ago. They’re £4.49 this week.

I'm struggling with salad stuff this year. Last couple of years I've grown salad leaves in the garden and managed to have enough to be able to pick every day for several months. This year I was immobile at the time I should have planted my seeds, and I know from experience it's too hot to get them to germinate now so it's not worth trying for the few weeks we'll still be eating salad.  I can never seem to get an iceberg to last a week for 2 of us without getting brown edges or slimy leaves or running out. It's a real pain having to go and shop for just one lettuce, or a lettuce and a cucumber just to see us through to the next supermarket shop.

Hopefully next year I'll be able to get my lettuce sorted early and won't have these problems again.
