Corned beef at Morries has gone from a high £2.75 to £3.59 in one jump.

Good grief ,that puts corned beef hash out the window then. How can that price be justified.I know it comes mainly from south america so perhaps its the amount of travelling it does. Oh well just have to think of something different for a change Luckily I keep a couple of tins as a standby in the cupboard. They will be prized now :)

It's only this last couple of weeks I've been able to get corned beef at Sainsburys at all as it's been out of stock for many weeks.  They haven't got their own label one that I normally buy, but the branded one is still £2.50 so I've bought a couple of tins for my pantry before it disappears again.  Tins of sardines seem to fly off the shelf quickly too.

as Sardines seem to be vanishing I buy the tiny tins of pilchards when I fancy a salad for myself i empty a tin into a bowl and mix with Mayo and some fresh ground black pepper and half the mix does me for one salad and the other half the following day on crispbrad or crackers for lunch with some sliced tomato on top at around 50-60p a tin the Glenryk ones in tomato sauce are delicious and do me for two meals easily, cheap as chips :0 :):) although today a bag of chips from the chippy is probably a lot dearer :):)

Yes, I buy the small tins of Glenryck pilchards too and currently have a decent stock of them, as well as sardines, tuna and pink salmon.  So versatile, all useful for sandwiches, salads, on toast or crackers, jacket potato topping or hm fishcakes.

I've no idea how much a chippy fish supper would be nowadays.  Pre-Covid that was our Friday treat and it was getting expensive even then.  Nowadays I sometimes do my own - hm batter for the fish and chunky chips, done the traditional way in beef dripping.  And therein lies another tale - a 250g block of dripping that used to cost around 55p is now £1.20, and that's if you can get it!  :/   Grr.

Today I did the last of my grocery shopping for the month and bought a few ys items - a bunch of spring onions (still good and now standing in a glass of water in the fridge), two red peppers (now chopped and frozen), two small pork, cheese & pickle pies (tomorrow's lunch with a side salad) and a pack of 4 chicken breast kebabs in a honey & chilli marinade that I've frozen.  I wouldn't normally even look at these kebabs at £4.20 a pack but reduced to £1.06 thought it was a good bargain.  :)   Next time I'm planning to have the oven on for something, I'll defrost/cook/slice them and they'll make a meal for us.

Anyway, it's been a frugally successful month as I have £12.55 left in July's grocery budget so I'll roll over the £2.55 and stick the £10 in my winter squirrel pot.  Every bit saved will no doubt be used towards the horrendous energy bills.
