Corned beef at Morries has gone from a high £2.75 to £3.59 in one jump.4

Good grief ,that puts corned beef hash out the window then. How can that price be justified.I know it comes mainly from south america so perhaps its the amount of travelling it does. Oh well just have to think of something different for a change Luckily I keep a couple of tins as a standby in the cupboard. They will be prized now

Travelling, the can, and the processing cost to get it in the can, to say nothing of the cost to raise the beef. Steel costs are very high at the moment.5

My eldest DDs ma-in-law gets a large bag of Yorkshire tea bags as part of her Christmas present every year from me, as I know she's a real 'teapot' and living alone, and at times struggling a little with costs, and at 85 I think a cuppa and a few biscuits (I also get her some really nice 'posh' biscuits) she loves her littel treats.
When I visit I usually take a home made fruit cake and some tins of odds and ends, as she doesn't get out as much as she used to, and with no car and a dodgy back it saves her carrying stuff.
I make up a basket of treats for her that I know she appreciates, small pots of jam, nice hand cream things that I see and buy over the year and she loves her little goodie basket. Bless her she's a dear soul and like most folk who are ,a bit like me ,not in the first flush of youth , we really need very little as by the time you get to our age we have got ,or had most things.
For her birthday this year I got her one of those long hot water bottles that look like a snake and you can wrap around yourself and she loved it as when she's sitting in her chair it helps her with her back ache and keeps her warm Things don't have to be expensive if you think about who your buying for when buying xmas/birthday presents

I've no idea how much a chippy fish supper would be nowadays. Pre-Covid that was our Friday treat and it was getting expensive even then. Nowadays I sometimes do my own - hm batter for the fish and chunky chips, done the traditional way in beef dripping. And therein lies another tale - a 250g block of dripping that used to cost around 55p is now £1.20, and that's if you can get it! Grr.
Today I did the last of my grocery shopping for the month and bought a few ys items - a bunch of spring onions (still good and now standing in a glass of water in the fridge), two red peppers (now chopped and frozen), two small pork, cheese & pickle pies (tomorrow's lunch with a side salad) and a pack of 4 chicken breast kebabs in a honey & chilli marinade that I've frozen. I wouldn't normally even look at these kebabs at £4.20 a pack but reduced to £1.06 thought it was a good bargain. Next time I'm planning to have the oven on for something, I'll defrost/cook/slice them and they'll make a meal for us.
Anyway, it's been a frugally successful month as I have £12.55 left in July's grocery budget so I'll roll over the £2.55 and stick the £10 in my winter squirrel pot. Every bit saved will no doubt be used towards the horrendous energy bills.Be kind to others and to yourself too.4 -
I tend to chop and change between Lids and Alds depending where my errands take me! I have found over the past month or so I have seen my basic shopping go up especially for mouse trap cheese, it was £1.69 for a while then it has recently jumped to £2.29 , the same applies to yogurts ( plain and fruit) and milk. We love anchovies and they seem to have stayed the same price so I think it's mainly everyone's everyday staples that seem to be going up!5
