Grocery Price Increases - What's the Biggest Hike You've Seen?

Or it could be that they realise that people just refuse to pay the inflated price and they are worried about getting stuck with it.I wonder if it will hopefully be any left by next Tuesday when its 10% off day for pensioners which will bring it down to £2.70joedenise said:Iceland have Lurpak spreadable on 7 day special price of £3 for 500g for those of you that like it.
That probably means it will be going up again after that! It usually does when it's on a special low price!
Higher than Aldi's Nordpak but a lot cheaper than other shops. Its amazing how when one big supermarket takes 10p off their pump price for petrol the others rush to do the same.
I know the price of oil has dropped (nowhere near to what it was during first lockdown
)Oh for those heady days when it was £1.00 a litre
due to the fact no one was using their cars as much and buying it
"Power to the people " A bit like Wolfie on the old TV series

.perhaps we need more people power, and to vote with our feet and purses.
Maybe as prices reach the estimated 15% cost of living increases expected on this mornings news for the winter, people will again just cut back even more, and buy less.
Many sadly will have no choice as budgets become even more streetched, and Mums (and Dads ) struggle to find ways to feed and clothe their families.
What a sad state of affairs the world is coming to.
I remember the post war austerity of the 1940s-50s of Mums trying to feed families on restricted rations and restricted money. Everyone struggled no matter who, but we survived and got through it ,to the wonderful 1960s when we were told "We've never had it so good "
Until the 1970s when things went wrong again and mortgage rates went up to 16-17% and strikes and shortages were the norm.We had a drought in the middle of that decade as well.
It seems history is on a loop repeating the same old round of boom and bust, and this decade will see a pretty hard bust I think.
But again Mums,Dads and Grandparents and families ,hopefully will pull together and get through it.
Today there is a lot more knowledge about to help folk with the internet etc, and the older ones amongst us can help by passing on our knowledge to the younger ones .
Which is one of the best things about the internet, we will get through this one chums as we have got through the last
So stock up on what you can afford to get and keep a sharp eye on prices and try as I do to find the best price for everything .
Yesterday my DDs ma-in-law Margaret was talking to me on her morning phone call, she is 85 and bright as a button, and was saying that she had gone to buy a small tin of red tile step-paint for her front doorstep as she likes to brighten it up every year as it gets a lot of sun, so needs doing.
She said she had gone into several shops in her area of Bexleyheath in London, and the cheapest she could find it was £17-18 for a small tin !!!
I said don't worry I'll look online for you.I did, and found some post free for £5.99 .She was delighted and said she would phone my DD and get her to order it (DD has her bank details for ordering bits) she did, and DD ordered it for her, and its coming this morning.
Result one happy lady who can now spend the afternoon repainting her doorstep for a reasonable price. She's a very pleased that its saved her a tenner and she can get her step done now.
I'm pleased as £17-18 for a small tin of paint seemed extortionate, I knew it was worrying her as her step looked tatty she said, and she likes to do little jobs herself if she can and keep her independance. So a little online research made her day
, and saved her some of her pension.
I have another NSD day today, and shall just be pottering around and trying to keep cool as north Kent is still very warm. I have some peppers in the fridge to use up, and also some halloumi cheese, so I will stuff a couple, and top with sage and onion stuffing and roast in my remoska and have with a large salad. a quick and meat free meal. followed by some low fat greek yogurt drizzled with honey and some sultanas and diced apple mixed in as well.
Have a good day everyone and keep tight hold of your cash if you can

Check dates when buying goods like Lurpak on offer, I know that they go longer than the dates say but it might well be nobody is buying it at the higher price so they are trying to get rid (as someone suggested). It might not be of course. Alas I feel like we live nearer the country Iceland than a store (we don't but we do live in the Northern Isles so no Iceland near us!).

I don't really get the Lurpak spreadable fervour that people have. It's pleasant enough but only 64% butter. Why not just buy 100% butter (eg Tesco or Sainsburys) at the standard price of £3.50/500g? You don't really even need a spreadable version in this warm weather.4

I don't actually like Lurpak but I posted it as I know a lot of people do.
As regards the BB dates as long as they aren't Out of Date then they can be frozen.

I love Lurpak Spreadable lighter. It's not actually about it being spreadable I just love the taste. My solution at the moment is to only use it where I will definitely taste it - brown bread and butter, pikelets, baked potato, and anything else I need butter for I've got the cheapest block butter I could get. I can't get to Aldi or Lidl for their versions; I've had them before and while I prefer Lurpak I might change if it were practical and a significant saving.5 -
I dug out my old butter curler gadget the other day, and do about a dozen or so 'curls' in a dish. This weather they are soon soft enough to spread on bread or crackers.Unslated butter is about £1.75 for 250 gms so inexpensive to buy a blockTheAble said:I don't really get the Lurpak spreadable fervour that people have. I posted about it on Tuesday but went for it a day early hoping to get the pensioner discount as it was showing on the Iceland website a day early. I hope they still have some left next Tuesday, so I can get a couple of tubs to put in the freezer.joedenise said:I don't actually like Lurpak but I posted it as I know a lot of people do.

A tip to make butter last longer. When making sandwiches only butter one slice of bread. I doesn't taste any different. I usually put a wee squigde of mayo/mustard/pickle on the other slice anyway. Unless you like it an inch thick on your toast like himself does, somewhat negates the saving but still!
I can't remember where I got that from, but I've been doing it for years. You really can't tell.Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.6 -
I dont use butter or mayonnaise or marg. Half a tomato or just the filling on its own is fine for me.I
cut out butter years ago to lower my cholesterol and now it’s an MSE strategy.5
