So if someone was looking for a cheap phone under £150 do we have any in that bracket that the app definitely works with?
Morgan computers have a 64 bit Samsung A40 5.9" 64GB Smart Phone running Android 9 for just under £100

Strange decision by Chase to limit their potential customer base by imposing these tech limits with their app.......other banks seem to manage fine with lower requirements for their apps.
I certainly wouldn't be buying a new phone just to run Chase's banking app.....who knows what other limits they might impose with future app updates?

BTW - Samsung S6 - stock android 7.1, so definitely not compatible here......
No longer getting security updates either so highly vulnerable and no banking app should be allowed to run on it. Sometimes people need protecting from themselves unfortunately.
Maybe you should tell that to all the banks who do allow it then.......
The last bank I'm aware of to launch a brand new app (Al Rayan) did the same, and restricted it to versions of Android that were still receiving security updates at that time, although they did also launch an authenticator app that would allow traditional online banking for those with older devices.
Marcus did similar with their new app......but then their account is not app-only......

Still, as was stated earlier, it's Chase's decision, so that's that really.

I love the idea that you might need to buy a new smart phone to access a 1.5% market leading savings interest rate!
Maybe that's one way of restricting the potential customers, and go for the tech savvy ones...

Some people somewhere at JP Morgan Chase had a meeting about this, and made the conscious decision to go for a 64 bits app, while understanding it would limit the user base.

Cheapest option would be to pick one up second hand from eBay at ~£65. You'd need to have £16k in there in order to break even over 12 months assuming the closest competition stays down at 1.1%. Most likely we'll see another base rate rise and Chase will remain at 1.5% while others close in.
And you might get a better phone than what you have in the process too

After seeing countless hundreds of posts about this new Chase account - I would find it absolutely hysterical if they reduced the rate to 1% in a months time

I suspect this has even come as something of a surprise to them, hence the compatibility list that had to be thrown away because supposedly compatible phones had been loaded with the wrong OS and were operating in 32-bit mode. Was anyone else aware 64-bit phones were being loaded with a 32-bit OS? It was news to me until people started complaining in the main Chase thread.

All that would happen is another mass movement to the next highest provider, if you find that hysterical you've a stranger sense of humour than me.
Exactly. Other savers benefit from those of us who are happy to move our saving at the drop of a hat. Otherwise we'd all be earning 0.01% on our savings.

Samsung Galaxy A5  Android 8.0.0 No idea if 32 or 64 bit - how do I tell?
Assumed it would not work but downloaded the App successfully and now get a 'welcome' screen with options to join or log in.

So will this work or will joining waste my time?
