So if someone was looking for a cheap phone under £150 do we have any in that bracket that the app definitely works with?

I've successfully download and set up the Chase app on my 2015 iPhone 6s (ancient in tech terms). I had to update the original iOS11 to the latest iOS15 and then I was good to go.

Maybe buy an old / cheap iPhone 6s from Ebay or similar and install the Chase app via that route......

Do the samsungs at about £120 work?
The A series use 32bit android, so no.
If the phone has more than 4gb ram it should work.
Not all of the A series use 32 bit Android. I have an A40 which is 64 bit, 4gb of ram running Android 11. Chase works fine on that.

Strange decision by Chase to limit their potential customer base by imposing these tech limits with their app.......other banks seem to manage fine with lower requirements for their apps.
I certainly wouldn't be buying a new phone just to run Chase's banking app.....who knows what other limits they might impose with future app updates?

BTW - Samsung S6 - stock android 7.1, so definitely not compatible here......

The thing is that the difference in interest between their savings account and the nearest rival, especially coupled with the 1% cashback if you use the current account, would potentially make it still worthwhile to go to the extremes of buying a new phone for it. Especially if you only have a cheap phone and it doesn't break the bank to replace with another cheap model that works with it.  For me, with the amount I have to save, I'd still be making a profit from the extra interest if i bought a new phone. Which is why I'm trying to figure out what to buy because I don't want to be in a situation where I get a replacement one and it doesn't work on that either.

I suppose for many it will depend on if you think the other banks will close the gap significantly over the next few weeks and months.

No longer getting security updates either so highly vulnerable and no banking app should be allowed to run on it. Sometimes people need protecting from themselves unfortunately.

Newer apps are increasingly going 64-bit only. Why maintain compatibility for such a small and shrinking section of the market, you effectively have to support a different codebase on a different OS, with the potential for unique security vulnerabilities. Low end 64-bit phones have been around for over 5 years, and all higher spec devices will be 64-bit. Microsoft ended support for 32-bit with Windows 11, no doubt 32-bit Android's days are numbered too.
You won't find any 32-bit chips these days, so device manufacturers are deliberately nerfing the hardware on their budget devices via choice of OS to limit the specifications and upgrade capabilities.

I love the idea that you might need to buy a new smart phone to access a 1.5% market leading savings interest rate!

    Crazy.
I wonder what the average amount is put into an easy access account.
Probably not enough to cover the added cost of a new smart phone.

Cheapest option would be to pick one up second hand from eBay at ~£65. You'd need to have £16k in there in order to break even over 12 months assuming the closest competition stays down at 1.1%. Most likely we'll see another base rate rise and Chase will remain at 1.5% while others close in.
