I'm going to download a copy of the manual, the link is here for anyone who missed it:

    http://dlc.panasonic-europe-service.com/eurodlc/default.asp?did=152761&fmt=pdf&xid=en&uilang=en

And print the reciepes sheet out and laminate them, as the manual is getting to look "well used" already.

    Hi

I sometimes slice freeze the last part of a loaf. Useful to have a little bit of bread in the freezer for when you need a quick slice of toast.

We are using tesco OL strong flower now and that is working just as good as the ASDA OL.

Have also made granary (hovis ££) and wholemeal (hovis££) and both have been good. I'll be looking for OL equivalents when I do the shopping

As for the paddle getting stuck in the bread, just turn it upside down (mind the heat) and wiggle from underneath a couple of times to loosen it.

We are trying the "sandwich bread" receipe now, just to see the difference.

The only loaf we have not liked so far was the French bread reciepe. Very crusty, and an unusual texture, and maybe lacked for sugar.

No problem using oil instead of butter in all the reciepes tried so far.

I've also just put a sandwich loaf on.
Using the Hovis flour I bought when it was on offer in Morries a while back but today bought a bag of flour at Lidl's for 48p - think Hovis is £1.05 so will see if there is a vast difference.
Not tried oil instead of butter yet - what sort have you used please? And do you weigh it (I have add and weigh scales so not a prob) or measure it out in mls?
Also has anyone reduced the amount of salt yet?
I have been using Lo-salt but it still seems a lot of added salt.
    Thanks.
You do realise in a couple of months there will be a "Panasonic Breadmaker Owners Trying to Lose Weight" thread, don't you?!! :rotfl:

    Hurrah, result!

just been to Tesco extra and grabbed a Panasonic SD253, marked as discontinued, and for only £49.98 - it has a fruit/nut dispenser too! - Best of all I had some money off coupons, so managed another £13.50 off the price - even better than the Amazon price - the scary thing is I went to buy the SD255 at £90+ and use my deals coupons, but in the end didn't need to as this one was so well priced, now I can save my deals tokens for a holiday in the sun :) - off to bake some bread! yahoo!!!

Well done deebee, let us know how the bread is

Clutterfree - oil instead of butter. Any oil will do [except Shell multigrade] , I use olive or "vegetable", whatever is to hand. Both work

I use about 1 tablespoonful, but it is not critical, 2 would do, 1 pint would be too much

re the paddle getting stuck.i take the pan out and leave the loaf in it for about 5-10 mins-no longer cos the bread gets damp.i've always found as well with this breadmaker that a wholemeal loaf is harder to get out than say the white/granary and the crust is always quite tough-even when adjusting the recipe
  • Just want to say thanking to everyone for their tips and advice. Also a quick update to let you know that I set my timer last night for the breadmaker to bake a french style loaf this morning. It was the best loaf of all the 4 that I have previously made. This time I used the fast-bake yeast instead of the normal yeast and also with french bread, the dough is left to prove for at least 5.5 hours instead of the short standard time on most bread. Therefore I think that it has made an improvement in the quality of the loaf.

Hi all i used the hovis brown bread ready made mix and i was really disappointed as the bread was really hard and not even that tasty.

    any ideas why this happened.

Also the paddle did not move around at all? :(

i was so excited about making the bread too.
