Mine is about 3cms clean, I think I read in manual it is loose and I thought it was so it could be removed when full of dough.
Page 35 Problems: The kneading blade rattles - This is because the blade fits loosely on the shaft. (this is not a fault)
Not a big problem as the paddle is made of alloy and the shaft steel, so buying a (or getting a replacement) new paddle should not cost to much and would fix any wear. The paddel would wear before the shaft thats a harder material.
I bought one of the Amazon machines and have found the same thing too. My first loaf was a brick, having used a Morphy Richards BM for some time and recently using the same flour, yeast, etc I knew the ingredients were OK so was really disappointed when it came out really bad - it looked like it had cooked the mix without kneading, etc. I am guessing the paddle didn't engage properly.
This time round, having spent some time fiddling with it, it didn't seem any different but I gave it another whirl and this time it was OK. Not 100% happy though about it.Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I think I have just found a bargain breadmaker - Morphy Richards Fastbake 48268 (the most recent one available). Found it on a internet shop called Giddy Aunt reduced from £79.99 to £28.99 - P&P is only £3.50. Link is
http://www.giddyaunt.com/product_inf...ducts_id=11141
Atlantic shop also do the same model for £34.04 but delivery is £7.88
Comet is £49.99 reduced at present and available in store. I really dont think you can beat the offer on the Giddy Aunt website though of £28.99 !! Bargain !! Just bought one.
" THIS ITEM IS FACTORY RECONDITIONED AND IN A PLAIN BOX."
It is important to read the whole description.0 -
Shame I missed this bargain but the MiL swore by her Panasonic and very kindly bought us the 255 for Christmas :j:j:j - we got it early too so have been using it loads, haven't really tried anything fancy - have done the the spicy fruit loaf tho which is lush
We have however established that certain flours should be avoided.
She'd bought us Hovis premium flours to start us off which make lovely loaves. Tesco own brand strong white bread flour made "heavy" loaves and didn't seem to be mixed properly. But Sainsbury's own brand is as good as the Hovis (my OH reckons it's better than the Hovis!) so we'll be sticking with that as it's around 50p/bag compared to Hovis at around £1.25.
The Hovis granary makes a nice loaf too
Is there a thread already for hints and tips?0 -
Just got my 255 and first loaf (rapid bake basic white) came out amazingly good! Have set it up for a fruit loaf at 6am, when I will be up and about! Can't wait."If a man says something, but there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?"0

I don't know how to get this at £40 off because on the Amazon site the price is £64.99. There doesn't seem to be a coupon for it on the HDUk site that someone mentioned. How do I go about it?0

It was only £39.99 for a couple of days so unfortunately you missed it.0

Ive tried about 7 Mix's now (inc Hovis) and nothing comes close to Aldi's The Pantry White Bread Mix (79p for 1kg does 2 large loafs).0 -
I seem to having problems at the moment-dough not being kneeded properly and paddle staying in the bread-I sense a return coming on..0

I have made quite a few loaves and all been great, but made one today and the paddle stayed in the middle of the loaf. I thought it was maybe my fault but just got another loaf baking (got visitors later) so hope the paddle doesn't get stuck in this one.
Has anyone else got problems with the paddle sticking?0
