my second attempt was a success! really lovely bread, dont think i will ever buy bread again!
it was the hovis granary mix, i do want to try my own next time.0 -
It only takes about 2 minutes to kick off with the raw ingredients, when you've done it a couple of times.0

this offer is long over, isn't it?
So why still on the Grabbit board and not over on It's gone0 -
ok stupid question time from my kitchen again. First loaf wasn't exactly an over whemling sucess, the middle has sunk a bit and the texture doesn't seem right, my OH described it as like crumpet
Should I be expecting the texture to be like shop bought bread?? If so what did I do wrong
Thanks to all for help0 -
Here is a site recommended by panasonic. This link is straight to the recipes page for some great ideas. Bacon and beer bread, ummmmmm.

Could be due to insufficient gluten in the flour or more likely too much water.
If you have an Aldi store near you try their bread mix (The Pantry label - 79p/kg) while you're experimenting with other recipes, you'll find it very easy to make a superb loaf.
Good luck0 -

Did you buy Tesco own-brand bread flour by any chance? We found that didn't make a particularly "light" loaf and I suppose your hubby kind of described what our bread was like using their flour.
As mentioned in my previous post, I'd highly recommend Sainsburys own brand strong white bread flour - as good as the Hovis stuff that's more than twice the price. 48p opposed to £1.22 :eek:0 -
I did indeed buy Tesco flour, I think I will have to try some Sainsburys and Aldi flour and see if it comes out any better :T
Thanks very much0 -
the Hovis bread looks rather yellow when baked in comparison with the Aldi (the Pantry) Mix which is a nice white colour.0

My first attempts were with Waitrose Organic Bread Flour and turned out perfect, even using the timer and another one using rapid bake.
I then changed to Tesco own label strong white flour and the results were very disappointing, very heavy bread.
I've now got an Aldi mix to try and I'll also be mixing the Tesco flour in with another brand to get rid of it.
Seems like a few people are struggling with Tesco flour. So glad I read the thread again as I was starting to get despondent after a perfect start.:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0
