Took delivery of one of these just before Christmas and it works very well.
However, there is a problem, the paddle is such a loose fit on the spindle that there is 5cms free movement at the end of the paddle and this will probably cause serious premature wear.
I'm wondering whether mine is a one off or maybe the Amazon £39.99 items were seconds?0 -

Is it really 5cms [approx 2 inches] ?
This seems far too much, about 5 -10mms would seem about right
However I find the paddle sticks on the spindle any way, and personally I never struggle remove it to clean it [mucky s*d I know] and so far still here to tell the tale [the heat kills any germs I reckon]Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

In the light of your helpful comments I think I'll contact Panasonic.
Thanks for your reply0 -
Mine was one of the £39.99 Amazon ones and I certainly don't have that sort of movement. Can you check with Panasonic that is the sort of movement they expect from their machines? If it is not, then you have some definite facts to go back to Amazon with.0

The movement on mine is nowhere near 5cms, 0.5 cm at most so I think you've got a problem there. After a slow start when I was using some old yeast I'm now really pleased with mine. It's on its second loaf of the day as we speak so thanks very much to the OP of the amazon offer.0

I had the problem of theblade coming off the spindle and was deep inside the cooked loaf. Happened on the 2nd time i used it until the 5th when i asked on the old style board. Some people had found that bread dough cooks on the spindle right at the bootom that needs to be given attention when cleaning. Now i know, the blade stays on during cooking - wahey!
I have a kids paintbrush on ahnd to stick inside the blade hole when cleaning as theres a little ridge inside that can stor some crust!0 -

Thanks for all the replies, I've emailed Panasonic and will post their reply.
The second loaf (baked today) required surgical removal of the paddle from the base of the loaf but the bread is very good - cheated a bit this time and used an excellent Ciabatta mix from Aldi at 79p/Kg.
Never had any problems with my old machine which I've replaced only because the non-stick properties of the pan had deteriorated0 -

The paddle of my machine also freely moves about 5cm. People who say theirs doesn't probably haven't been cleaning it enough! My granary loaf attempt was a disaster but there hasn't been a problem with the four or so white loaves I made.0 -
I have put on 7lb over the Christmas period, mainly due to the panny! Didn't realise there were so many calories in the bread till we sat and worked it out today....gosh!
Haven't been as adventurous as a lot of you on here after trying a seeded loaf. We couldn't figure out what to do after the beeps to put the seeds in, and the instruction manual doesn't say how to get it restarted, but ended up pressing the start button and switched it off. We feed the birds with that one!
Thanks to the OP for this fab piece of equipment, my hubby loved it as his Christmas pressie (even though I bought it for me really LOL!)0 -
I too have been loving my new toy!
Will never buy bread again:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0
