If I ever needed the service of the fire bridgage yes I would send a thank you by putting a donation to a fund, those guys put their life at risk for us - the recent news ofthe 4 that lost their life in the warehouse fire. Yes they are isolated incidents - but children are left without their fathers, parentsleft without thier children .......
A few yrs ago in ,y previous employment, I organised a fun day and the local fire crew gave up their time to come for a couple of hours as well as keeping them full of coffee the company donated £100 to the fund.xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

I give the milkman £10 in a card - which I leave in the milk bottle caddy.
I didn't give the postman anything this year because there doesn't seem to be a regular one. I guess that shouldn't matter really - I still have tomorrow to put that right. In previous years I have sellotaped a card with the money in onto the letter box.
I have tipped the binmen in previous years but since moving I haven't. I don't think I have thought about it really. Maybe because now we have the normal bin men, the recycling men (and the green bin men - not that we put that our as we have a compost tumbler etc).
Anyway the short answer is £10 to all of them, when I do it.
I remember the tips I got as a papergirl always meant so much more than the money itself.0 -
We gave our postie bottle of scotch, hes an absolute star, he sent a note thanking us, and want a wonderful gift, he wasnt expecting anything as expensive. 1 lt bottle Bells.......... Not that expensive bulk brought Manchester duty free worked out £6.00 bottle.
Paperboy £5.00
Binmen nothing - not being tight but since recycling (as much as we can goes to Tesco - recycling centre - points reward), and they changed our binmen a week ago.
Milkman - we get our own now
Merry Christmas to one and all xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
hmm not sure how I feel about this, I mean they are only doing their jobs after all. Someone said they get up early etc in all weather, well in the job I have just left I had to get up in all weather at 3am ish and no one tipped me for checking them onto the flights for their holidays even if I did my best to swap seats and sort problems out etc.
Binmen only take whats in the green bins anyways and nothing else we dont have milk delivered and whilst I feel a bit sorry for the girl with my ebay parcels, I didnt get tipped for ever checking in more than one small bag per person etc...and whilst she seems very friendly to my husband she never talks much to me so the only tip from me she will get this year is 'dont flirt with my husband cos I wear the trousers and decided who does and doesnt get an xmas tip lol'
oh and am I the only one who finds it mildly amusing that the muslims who run the kebabbbby shop have a xmas box, the sikhs who run the newsagents have an xmas box, the chinese who run the chinese have one too...personally to me I would far rather tip them at their special time of the year if you get me like Eid etc and it wouldnt feel like everyone capitalising on xmas when my kids do enough for everyone lol0 -
I'll be working over Christmas this year in the hospital and we never get treated! lol All I'll get over Christmas and new year is drunks yelling and girls crying! (a&e) at least all the other people get to have Christmas off and stay at home with their families.
I don't tip as if I did I'd find it hard at where to draw the line. I thought about tipping the milkman as he does a great job so might leave him some biscuits or something.Starting my DMP Journey.0 -
Surely the reason for tipping or giving a 'christmas box' is nothing to do with them only doing their jobs, but how they do and - if they put a little extra effort in or do it with a willing and good heart. And if they do, then I think an Xmas gift or tip is a very welcome thank you.
So what if you have to work on Xmas Day, so do I and Boxing Day and New Year and I don't begrudge those who have time off. I'm sure you get time off in lieu.0 -
I don't get time off in lieu actually. We work shifts and because my shift has fallen on it I'll have to work it this year. I don't mind working it, it's actually be quite fun laughing at all the drunks, what I'm saying is people who have to work it are often forgot about and just seen as "part of the furniture" when other people see them working over the holidays.
I just will not be tipping people because I don't see the difference between them doing their jobs and people working in shops/hospitals/police etc etc etc etcStarting my DMP Journey.0 -
Our main postie is great, always finds somewhere safe and dry to leave parcels if i'm not in etc. And sign for, if necessary, saving me a 10-mile round trip to sorting office). Cheeky sense of humour etc.
Gave him a fiver in a xmas card and a bottle of wine (cost £3.99 at half price :T ) There's at least 2 other stand-ins, they don't get anything.
Buy milk at supermarket and always miss the bin men! They do do a good job tho :j:wave:0
