i've only just moved so dont really 'know' my new potis but my old postie was very friendly and he would've got a £5 thankyou if i hadn't of moved.aardvaak I am sure these people are very nice people but it is their job - they are getting paid large salaries already!
my dad used to be a milkman and trust me the money isn't very good in fact he had a nervous breakdown because of the stress of it, so if i had a milkman i would tip him/herOther women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0 -
My son is a paper boy.
He is out every morning and 5 evenings, 50 weeks of the year, regardless of the weather conditions and frequently returns soaked through.
He has been menaced by dogs, grumbled at because letter boxes are too small for Sunday papers and has fallen on badly maintained steps etc etc
Yes he gets paid - but nothing like the amount the newsagent screws out of customers as 'delivery charge'. It has changed my thinking when I realised that a £1 tip = 2p a week.
£5 = 10p a week.
It is the elderly folk who are the most generous - I won't say anymore.
He has been brought up to be polite, so says 'thank you' to everyone.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I know a postman, he loves his Christmas tips and usually manages to rake in around £400 at this time of year
I will tip mine because he is lovely and always carries all my heavy parcels and is cheery and he hasn't given me a christmas card as a hint! It will be £5.
I'm not giving the bin men anything because I always have to trudge halfway round the close to get my bin back lazy so and sos.0 -

I give my postie a tenner, he's friendly and will re-deliver parcels etc to save me travelling to local sorting office (5 miles).
My DS used to have a paper round and did well for tips, but being up and out before 7.00 am each morning (when only 14) and the heavy papers on Saturdays and Sundays, I think he deserved it, as do all those currently doing a round. I don't have a paper boy but if I did get papers delivered, he/she would get a fiver.
Don't give the bin men anything.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
I give my Postie £5, Bin men nothing this year as i am always tidying after them when the bin bags burst (always outside my house)!
Nothing for the paper boy as he is a cheeky g*t!

I would like to give something to our postie as he's wonderful - perhaps a bottle of wine? I don't really have spare cash for giving a money tip, but do you think that is the best thing to give?

Wow, a real mixture of responses.
My initial guess was about right on average, so thanks for all the help.
A friend suggested putting a Christmas scratchcard in it - might do that too - would be so chuffed if he got a big win out of it!!!

I know they are only doing their job but I feel it's the one time of year that I should show my appreciation. Puts me in the Christmas spirit and I know they really appreciate it.
In return my bosses in work always give the staff presents of about £20 each.recent wins-3 x anchor, a bag of skittles, 50 spud shillings, A tassimo mug :T0
