People crossing the road at junctions
Comments

I had a similar issue to others yesterday, lady and child started to cross at a junction as I was coming around the corner, she then saw me, I was stopped but she waved me on and took a step back. Even though I had signalled to her to cross. I had thought signalling to them to cross would help, but not always0

Rule 195 says "do not wave, flash your lights or use your horn to invite pedestrians or cyclists across; this could be dangerous if another vehicle is approaching"sevenhills said:I had a similar issue to others yesterday, lady and child started to cross at a junction as I was coming around the corner, she then saw me, I was stopped but she waved me on and took a step back. This rule relates to Zebra crossings, but the principle (and the danger) applies everywhere.0 -
She communicated with me too. These new rules create confusion, communication is needed. Even the police do it.Car_54 said:

That is not a new rule.sevenhills said:

I actually saw this rule in action today and almost a very messy outcome. The car in front of me was turning left and a pedestrian complete with headphones and mobile phone was completely oblivious to everything. Pedestrian actually walked into the side of the car as it was most of the way round the corner before the pedestrian reached, and stepped off, the kerb.

Maybe you startled the pedestrian by entering the road as they crossed therefore contributing to the confusion. As the Highway code clearly shows you should've waited at the junction until they had crossed before entering the road. And as stated, this is not a new rule, you have always had to give way to pedestrians already crossing the road you are entering.sevenhills said:

If the rules had been acted upon then the car should have waited and not turned in.TELLIT01 said:I actually saw this rule in action today and almost a very messy outcome. I did, I stopped, I already stated that.shiraz99 And as stated, this is not a new rule, you have always had to give way to pedestrians already crossing the road you are entering.0 -
You said your were "coming round the corner" which suggests you had already begun to enter the road.sevenhills said:

The way I've always seen this work in Europe is that cars will usually turn most of the corner right up to the pedestrian crossing point and wait there for pedestrians to cross. There's a traffic light junction near me where the stop line is set back and garden hedges obstruct the view round the corner, so cars have to partially corner before even seeing pedestrians crossing.shiraz99 said:
