People crossing the road at junctions

So if you are at a junction turning left, the traffic light is green, but when a pedestrian approaches you need to stop and let them pass?zagfles said:Read the introduction to rule H2. It states "At a junction you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning." You don't need to give way to pedestrians if you're going straight on, just if you're turning.

If they are crossing the road you are turning into then yes.

All the answers are in Highway Code. Spend tonight reading it as you need to know it before taking your test.sevenhills said:

It's not difficult to most people is it. If i'm turning into a side road and someone is waiting/crossing then i wait. Rather than running them over because i might have "right of way" [i haven't] When i'm walking, i always wait to see if the driver will stop as vehicles hurt.
Quite a few drivers don't stop [perhaps the new guidance is aimed at them predominantly?]3 -

When it's published in April I will do that. No point in bringing these rules in before then, as most parents and children haven't read it yet.

If you really need to see things in print, why are you participating in an Internet forum? That seems a bit perverse, to say the least.sevenhills said:daveyjp said:All the answers are in Highway Code. Spend tonight reading it as you need to know it before taking your test.

The fact is that it has been published, just not in the traditional format.3 -

The fact is that it has been published, just not in the traditional format.I have noticed a couple of motorists stopping to let people cross; but if its done all the time it will be a massive change.I was always that driver who thought about letting people cross, but stopped myself because it would stop traffic and cause confusion. We need to get to the stage where everyone knows the rules. How will the pedestrians know that you are stopping for them?

Since the change I’ve been on both sides of the new experience. As a pedestrian I’ve been a bit bolder about asserting my new status at junctions. Of course as lots of drivers have no idea things have changed I do stay in self-protection mode just in case. As a driver I’ve tried to act according to the new rule, but the pedestrians I’ve stopped to allow to pass have stood back and waved at me to continue! I’ve also found a few junctions where, as I’m carrying speed due to the angles of the junction (no traffic lights involved), it dawns on me that someone who might have already been crossing would have needed me to make a pretty sharp stop.
So I’m learning as I go, but cautiously!Arch0 -

I thought they were going to be there until school was out some 3-4 hours later. Kids stopping in the middle of the crossing shouting back to their mates walking up the pavement away from the direction that kid on the crossing was going to be walking.Other kids on the crossing just generally clowning around. That's the problem with todays you can't touch me I can do what I want mentality.0
