I'm due to complete on a house purchase in the next couple of months. Can anyone see a reason I wouldnt get the cashback if I paid the deposit and conveyancing fees out of my Chase current account? Money will be moved from the 1.5% into there or my salary account when needed.

    Thanks in advance.
I don't think you will - wouldn't they fall under these categories from the list of exclusions ?
    • Deposits
    • Professional and financial services
    • Real estate agent and management fees

The full list can be found here ... https://www.chase.co.uk/gb/en/legal/Cashback-Exclusions/

I have 4 current accounts with chase and three savings plus the round ups. So far so good my only issue is I had problems with one company accepting the account for the direct debit (general accident) and they don’t accept international transfers. As I only wanted basic banking anyway, no borrowing at all (not that I can borrow anyway) for me is nearly perfect. It just needs an IBAN to cover everything I need and the Cashback and interest right now is *chefs kiss* paying my DMP by card. Imagine the cashback on £815 monthly. Only for that payment alone it’s worth it. Ah! I linked the card to my curve so I get the chase cashback AND the curve cashback on some of the transactions 😬
Surely paying a DMP is classified as debt repayment and thus not eligible for Cashback

Sure - you've got nothing to lose. My impression is that cashback is only payable when you use your card to buy a 'thing' from a proper merchant, eg. food, clothes or other products from a shop, or (presumably) certain online retailers. It may also apply if you buy something like a holiday from a reputable website ? (not sure about this though)

Basically, only merchants issued with certain MCC codes will result in cashback. No code or excluded code = no cashback. Taken from the bottom of the cashback exclusion list...

    Good to know

Merchants get given a specific code based on the type of things they sell. This is called a Merchant Category Code (MCC). We use the MCC to work out whether you can earn cashback on a transaction.

We don’t control what type of code a merchant gets given. So, in some cases, a merchant might sell something that seems eligible for cashback. But because of the merchant’s category code, the transaction isn’t eligible.

Notable exclusions appear to be money transfers and deposits, anything to do with insurance, buying, selling, servicing or repairing cars, motorbikes, boats and motorhomes, buying/selling houses and hospital/nursing fees.

I paid my holiday deposit via Chase and got the cashback, if that helps.
  • I got my holiday booking cashback, but not the travel insurance, as expected.

If the only other option is to pay the fee by some means that attracts no cashback, then it is no harm to try. You can never be certain of the payment system being used for the transaction, and it may just happen to fit into a permitted category when put through. If you do have other cashback options, then that's where a Curve card with it's go back in time feature comes into its own.

I plan on using the card in Paris next week so will see how it goes using it abroad. I did send them a quick message to ask if I ended to
notify them I would be using it abroad and they said no

I bought the flight from Opodo and got the cashback and the hotel from hotels.com and got the cashback also.

I went to the dentist at the beginning of the week and got cashback
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?
