Pond is all done after DH having problems with the pond vac. I moved the spring onions which proved a mistake as our JRT decided to dig about half of them up. She used to regularly sit in plant pots when she was younger. It was a very expensive day yesterday as I paid the excess on the insurance for the vet. They charged me about £40 more than I was expecting so when I got home I checked the emails from the insurance company so went back today to query why it was more. Being Saturday they have limited staff so I will go back on Monday but it may have to be referred back to their accounts dept which is at the other surgery. I have to go in Monday anyway to collect the heart meds for the JRT.We had a lovely walk today as we saw lots of doggy friends and the collie (to be known here as Mr H) had a play with his best friend a one year old black Lab. As Mr H is 11 there is no way he can keep up with him but enjoys the run and is quite happy to come back with no ball.Small rant! When I wen to the vet this morning I took Mr H with me as I wanted to weigh him and on the way home a rottweiler came running up to him with the owner shouting it ok hes friendly. She looked a bit shocked when I said thats fine but Mr H isnt. At that he started growling because he doesnt like strange dogs running up to him when he is on the lead. The dog was very reluctant to leave him alone so I had to drag Mr H away. I understand it was a young dog but the owner didnt appear to have a lead or much control and seemed surprised when another dog didnt want to play. If I had let him off the chances are they would have been fine but I was on my own and I didnt fancy trying to police a dog fight between to largish dogs. For a Border Collie Mr H is quite big.I am off now to relax and watch some TV before their eveing walk at 10pm.2

I have watered my veggie babies and in tthe process manged to break the zip on the mini greenhouse so have had to order a new cover but used some of the balance in my paypal account. Money I could have done without spending so very cross with myself.Lots of dogs on the field where we take ours. We are somewhat limited in where we can go as little one is on limited walks. She has been coughing a lot in the last couple of days which is a sign that the leaky heart valve is not doing too well. Her breathing rate is still ok but sometimes her chest is very rattley. She was however, running around the field with the other dogs a little so is still enjoying her life.0

It really annoys me when people let their dogs run up to mine and say their dogs are friendly like it doesn’t matter and then appear shocked when my dog growls at them 😡 My dog doesn’t like dogs running up to her.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

I don't have a dog but we walk in a space that is very, very popular with dog walkers, however, race horses have priority until noon and dogs are supposed to be on a lead until then. . There have been a few issues lately with dogs off the lead running up to horses - these horses are very highly strung and last week a stable girl broke her collar bone trying to keep her horse under control. I like dogs but I don't like them jumping up at me - some owners stop their dogs doing this but others laugh and say that their dogs are so friendly.Well done on getting the pond done.
hope the vets bill gets sorted out tomorrow.0 -
We used to have a JRT that would chase horses if we walked them on the beach. She had to be on a lead if there were horses about.Whats new today. £15.00 overpayment sent to the loan account this morning. It is slowly coming down but I wish it was faster.
Shopping today not exciting but necessary and not too much spent . Did manage to pick up my prescription and wonder of wonders it was ready. Not amused something is destroying my cucumber seedlings only 2 left and I suspect they will be gone tomorrow. The new greenhouse cover arrived this morning so I will sort that out tomorrow. At the second attempt I managed to change the phone number on my ebay account and also on the CC account. That was a job and a half as I use it so rarely I couldnt remeber the log in details so had to phone them to reset it. All done now.I called in to the vet yesterday but as I suspected they hadnt had chance to lopk at it so will call in toworrow on my way to the PO.I did see the lady with the dog that ran up to ours today and she gave me a dirty look but she did have her dog on the lead so thats a gain. I had seen her earlier talking to someone we know who has a very lively small dog that gets on well with ours so I do wonder if she had a moan about us and had it explained to her that Miss W despite being a large staffie X is very very nervous and really gets stressed when approached by lively dogs until she really gets to know them to the point where she has run across the raod to go home. She is very well known in the area having come from Battersea and featured on Paul O'Gradys For the Love of dogs 3 times. The little one on the other hand will just any dog off that doesnt behave in a manner that suits her. Typical Jack - all mouth.Well now for a quiet evening with the TV.1 -
Oh yes my Jack will see off any dog that approaches her if they don’t suit her 😆 She quite likes male Jacks and Chihuahua/Jack mixes though. She’s definitely all mouth 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

We always used to laugh at car boot sales (when I was fit enough to do them) that if you heard barking there was nearly always a Jack in there somewhere. The little ones best friend when she was younger was a huge Irish Wolfhound X who measured 42inches at the shoulder! Size has never worried her - a true big dog in a small body.0

Vet bill still not sorted as she "hasnt had time". She will apparently ring me when its done as its complicated. I will give her until next Monday and then I will be complaining to the practce manager and sending an email to their other surgery where all the accounts are done.We had a disturbed night last night with the little dog coughing so I think if she is the same tonight I will make anappointmmet to see the vet to see if anything else can be done. I dont think there is as the better diuretics caused changes in her kidnys in just 2 weeks but its always worth asking. We had roasted veg and bacon for dinner which made a change and I am planning cheese and potato pie for tomorrow as we havent had one for a long time. I am trying to cut the amount of meat I buy but with a devoted meat eater it is hard.0

So far I am not enjoying today. Woken at 4.45 to take little one out to toilet. Came back to find Miss W had used her puppy pad. Cleared that up and went back to bed. I then woke late. While I was getting te dogs breakfast ready Miss W used her puppy pad again despite the doors to the garden being open. Not amused but at least she uses the pads.Sat haaving my breafast and the phone rings. It is Western power with an important message about power cuts press number whatever to get the message. I dont press numbers because I automatically distrust messages like that so ring Western power on a different number to see what its about. Turns out there are a lot of cuts but they arent affecting us. While I was talking on the phone a vision in thermals appeared looking angry moaning about being woken so early (8.30). He doesnt get up until lunchtime. I explained and he stomped off back to bed.In other news I have cashed out £10.00 from surveys which will be in my paypal account after the weekend and the cheque from GWR has arrived so I will take that to the bank next week.
Little one went to the vet yesterday and they have given her additional medication and we have an appointment for tomorrow morning for a review. She does seem to be coughing less but the new meds will make her kidny failure worse. It is a balancing act to get the best results possible.Right off now to get on with some housework and give the dogs their daily carrot.0 -
@ladyholly - try putting the puppy pad outside the back door to encourage the pup to use it outside. I've not had a dog for a long time but when we did we used to use newspaper by the back door and then once pup was using regularly put the paper outside when the door was open and gradually moved it to a different part of the garden where we wanted the dog to "go". Once using it in the right place gradually reduced the amount of paper.
Used this system with all our dogs over the years.
