Many thanks to all for your good wishes and encouragement. I am mainly worried about the travelling on the train and through the airport. I have asked for airport assistance and will ring to confirm nearer the time but these things don't always work. Our local station is unmanned so although I will ask for assistance I can only hope it happens. Once I board the ship I should be ok and I am sure I can ask for help if I need it.

The tour I am going on is an astronomy one where there will an astronomer on board giving lectures. There is no actual organized entertainment on board but that doesn't bother me. I spent too many years taking residents to various holiday camps and seeing some pretty awful shows. There are however a couple of hot tubs and I rather fancy being in one under the night sky. I have even bought a swimming costume in anticipation.

On other notes I have continued with my morning and evening walks although they have been somewhat curtailed during the hot weather which I have found difficult to cope with. Very little has been done in recent weeks as I only have to move and I am dripping and panting. The fan has had a lot of use.

Today is the first day I have managed the full distance both. Morning and this evening.

Daisy- there is no point leaving a list for me lh as he would ignore it.

Blackcats- I have booked the Hilton as it is only a very short walk under cover to the airport terminal.

I think the thing with airports is to find the quiet place to wait. Take a travel bag with a magazine (I absolutely love a magazine called The Si#ple Things which can be bought online from a store called Pics and &nk) and a packup. Don't forget a naughty bag of crisps to give you salts for the plane, water and some skincare for the plane. Personally I'd go the whole way with a face mask and eye mask as well. I would personally google a skincare regime for flying. Do enjoy.

(Lol, oh i knew fine well he would try to ignore it, it was more about setting out your expectations and a written list gives you both the standard you expect. It would be a bit of a sad end to your lovely break to have to start cleaning the minute you get home.)

Cruise sounds very interesting, like you I'd be interested in the astronomy side rather than show type entertainment.

I'm absolutely sure you will be fine travelling but as extra back up I'll keep my fingers crossed that everyone turns up when they are supposed to. My granda went to Australia on his own at 94 and the airline people were very helpful plus travel at each end.

Pack as light as you can so you can pull the suitcase yourself just in case help doesn't arrive. Most people take far too many changes of clothes for a holiday and clothes can be heavy. Obviously put your coat on and id say use the pockets where you can rather than having too much in other bags. At most one handbag type bag. Nowadays you can get really clever suitcase and bag combination where the wee bag attaches to the big bag so it can be maneuvered together safely without them falling about the place. Then you just need a slim over body strapped bag to hold passport, tickets and money under your coat for safety . Worth while buying the right things to make your life easy rather than making do if you can afford it.

Enjoy the planning, thats half the fun of a holiday

as Daisy was saying,pack lightly. A lot of cruise ships have laundry facilities. We did a Norway cruise some years ago while I was waiting for knee surgery. There were days that I didn’t go ashore as my mobility wasn’t great but was able to sit with my book having a great time just taking in the scenery. It was such a good trip
