Lovely to hear from you. Glad you are ok. Great that the kitchen is being done even if it's stressful, hopefully it will be a massive improvement in the end.

As jwil says, lovely to hear from you and with such exciting news. Sounds like its been a good move getting kitchen done, although it caused more work you now know its more up to date wiring will be future proof for the next years. Its really hard doing without a kitchen but that's great you have had the caravan. Must be like being on holiday every night eating out there 😆

sounds like you have a sensible plan for the next phases of work, once you get them done and your house is back to being yours again you will be well placed to enjoy the summer.

Once you get the kitchen finished will mr lh perhaps be away in the caravan for his festivals or activities? If not the perhaps its worth while booking a few nights in a local hotel, cabin, static caravan or bnb for you both so you get a break from having to deal with straightening the place up every night after workies have been in. Being able to lock up, leaving the mess and go to a lovely clean working house each evening would be lovely. Take the costs of it as if it was just the cost of getting the work done. In fact look now for a last minute booking so you have a working kitchen till yours is finished. Save your strength for the things that matter, like sorting your items into the new kitchen.

Well done getting things picked and workies booked etc, you'll definitely need a holiday after all that, its exhausting making all these decisions.

Lovely to hear from you. You are making great progress and your plans sound very well thought out. The previous owner of your house with his dodgy diy sounds like he was related to the previous owner of @foxgloves house!

When I first bought this house & was decorating through, every time we went near a plug socket the power to it went & to every further socket along. Eventually my electrician gave up & one evening brought his girlfriend along sat her down with me (& coffee) & sorted every plug in the house. All the ones he hadn't already done needed doing because not one of them had the wires screwed in. Scary when you think about it.

Glad all is well and that you're getting things done to the house. It's disrupting having workmen around but needs must and it will be so worth it when it's done.

Glad the electrician is renewing the electrics, you can't take chances with that! We replaced our cooker 18 months ago, and a "fault" display came on last month. AEG promptly sent someone to check what repair was needed, and last week an electrician came to change the part. Only to discover that the fault had occurred because a wire hadn't been jointed correctly and had been arc-ing intermittently ever since - we could have been burnt to a crisp at any time during the last 18 months! The wall had several blackened spots where the wire had touched.

What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

It is worrying how much can go wrong that even we would know was wrong & just seems to slip through passed people whose job it is supposed to be.
