Evening allMy eldest dgd and her partner called in on boxing on the way to have Christmas dinner with dd and sil. They didnt bring the dog as my dd has cats and dont like being shut in one room. They brought gifts which was very kind of them.My dd said our dgds thought I am going senile as their Christmas money was a lot more than usual as a small share of my inheritance. They were quite worried apparently in case we would be short of money. I have warned them it was a one off as I dont want them to be reliant on my money and they are both working and have had a substantial inheritance from Mr LHs father which was in trust for them until they were 21.Yestrday I was brushing my hair which was a bit knotty due to the wind and the brush snapped in half and fell apart. Not happy as I didnt have another one so had to go out and get a new one which cost more than I was expecting. This morning I was lying in bed and considering getting up at 7am when I thought I heard the dustman. Yep I did and I had forgotten to put it all out. Clothes sufficient to be decent thrown on, found a pair of slipper as my usual footwear at this time of year is hiking type boots and I didnt have time to lace them and dashed (well a slightly faster than usual) downstairs and grabbed the wheelie bin just in time. This afternoon dgds and I went to our local pantomime which was fun. I prefer the evening show but the oldest dgd lives a fair way away and it ends up being very late when she gets home.Must get on with some tidying and cleaning tomorrow as I have done very little since Christmas and it is showing.A friend called for coffee yesterday which was nice so a good natter was had.Well thats the last few days. Have a good evening.9

Evening allThe housework I intended to do has been completed. Hooray. The recycling that should have been coleected on Monday has been collected yesterday.A late night last night due to watching an old Simon and Garfunkel concert. Very enjoyable.Bank account and credit card checked.Gosh its cold today. It apparently went down to -3 last night. Not too cold by northern standards I know but distincly chilly for this part of the country. It was 1.4 in my garden when I got back from the sm.I used my nectar points which, although it didnt cover the shopping went a long way towards it. Ithey would have been enough but I decided to get some extras for stock.I put some washing on before I went out and when I got back every light was flashing including the door lock. Not happy because I now have washing locked in there until Sunday when they can come to hopefully fix it. I dont like going into the New Year with outstanding washing but its unavoidable this year. At least the insurance covers it.Smoked salmon out of the freezer and the Cava is in the fridge ready for later. Other than that a quiet New Year.Wishing everyone a a peaceful night and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.6

Happy New Year 🥳 Minus 3 sounds a tad chilly by cosily wrapped in the middle of the country Midlands standards 🥶 a very chilly 2 degrees here tonight though.
Boo to the trapped washing, hope it’s fixed soon.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4 -
If you can safely do so, might be worth turning it off at the plug and seeing if the lock auto-releases after a while. If it doesn't, turn it back on and it might let you set a new cycle, in which case do drain and spin so you can hopefully get your washing out when the cycle ends. Lots of times afaik washing machines get 'stuck' because they're not draining which can be a big or minor thing to sort out.
Regardless, it's not the worst thing you've had to deal with this year so enjoy your cava and happy new year to you 🥂https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase/p1

I have tried the reboot on the washing machine but no go. Thank you for the suggestion. I will just have to wait until Sunday.Morning and Happy New Year. Finally asleep about 2am but we had a nice night. I stayed up to watch the old Queen concert.I forgot to say that the yellow flowers for my Mum are in place. I usually buy Chrysanths. but Mr S didnt have much so a small bunch of white with one yellow flower and some yellow roses. I dont usually buy those because they dont last very long. I always have them for what would have been her Birthday today. She would not have liked them taken to the crematorium so they stay here where I can enjoy them.Yellow because spring was her favourite season.Off to buy the milk I forgot yesterday in a few minutes.Have a good day.

Evening allA quiet few days. Christmas is all packed away I just have to get the energy to put it all in the loft. The boxes are ok but the tree is quite heavy. The washing machine engineer is timed to come between 10.30 and 1.30 tomorrow. Hopefully he will be able to sort it quickly as I have washing overflowing the laundry bin.We heard some sad news a couple of days ago that a lady called Sarah Fisher who was very well known in the horse and dog training and behaviour world has died. She helped us a lot with Miss W. when we first adopted her. She will be sadly missed by a lot of animal rescues and people with problem dogs and horses.A visit from friends with puppy today which was lovely.I had a quick trip to the sm for a few bits that we needed first thing. It was a very cold trip as I expected. I am finding the silk glove liners are helpful in making my hands less cold on the scooter.Have a good evening.6

Perhaps dump the tree now and get a smaller/lighter one in the sales now - next year you won't find it any easier to humppff it out of and back into the attic than you do this year.

A lot of people seem to be doing that with their Xmas trees this year, so many are being advertised for free on our local fb sites.:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.003

Evening allMr LH put Christmas in the loft this afternoon after he heard me dragging the tree from the bedroom to the landing ready to go up there. Very happy he did it. I am keeping the tree until the end of the year in case I have trouble getting what I want in December or more likely forgetting I want a prelit one. I have put a note on my calendar to look for one in late Nov. / early Dec but that relies on me looking at the calendar which doesnt happen that often. The credit card bill arrived and on checking there is just the right amount in the housekeeping account so pleased with that. I will check it in the morning and pay it when it becomes due in a couple of weeks. I might as well get the paltry amount of interest. It is still very cold here but sadly no snow. The consequence of being on the coast with salt in the air and in a less cold part of the country. I do live in hope though.Walks completed although slightly shorter as the cold seems to make my breathing worse. I ould put a scarf over my face but it always seems to end up slightly soggy which is unpeasant. The washing machine is fixed and 5 loads of washing done - 3 yeasterday and 2 today. I have managed to get most of it dry as the heating has been on for a lot of the day. I usually manage without until just before Mr LH gets up as he feels the cold so badly.I am assuming everyone outside Christmas light will be down or at least off tonight. It always seems very sad whe they go knowing the worst of the winter is probably ahead. On the other hand the mornings already seem to be showing signs of getting light a little bit earlier.Thats it for now. Have a good evening.4
