Evening allIntereseting few days.Mr LH started to put the coat hooks up. Then decided the cable detector he bought for the bannister being put up wasnt accurate so he didnt want to do it. I suggested a coat stand but they are not stable enough apparently. Instead he decided we had to have a hall stand with a cupboard and shelf. Please note these are not cheap but one ordered that we both liked. Well he got his comeuppance when it arrived as the instructions were on scrappy pieces of paper and it looked as though the printer ink was about about to run out. Helpfully the company provide a video on utube using a QR code to access it. Unfortunately neither of us have ever used QR codes and had no idea how to use them. He did manage to suss it out eventually after a lot of shouting and threatening to throw the unit in the dustbin. Would have been intereting as the unit is almost 6ft tall. I sensibly left him to it and eventually he appeared shouting me to carry into the position where it will live. He hasnt screwed the bottom unit to the side as it has to be moved for the carpet fitters hopefully on Friday and it will be easier and lighter split into two.We have had a couple of visitors for coffee and a good chat which has been nice. One of them was our friend with the puppy. I was quietly sat watching a Chinese drama this morning and heard doors opening. I assumed it was Mr LH until a hairy flying puppy charged through the lounge door and hurled himself onto my lap at high speed followed about a minute later by a very dishevelled owner who had been pulled all the way here at high speed. I think he likes me.Money things: I have finished transferring money into the new account so now need to find an ISA account for MR LH. He is now looking for a large metal tool box so he can hopefully sort them all out and start to remove the garage from the conservatory. He thinks he has found one the right size and we are just hoping the quality is ok as it isnt costing as much as we thought it would. He will order it at the end of the week as we dont want anything big coming into the house until the carpet is done.Thats enough wittering for now. Have a good evening.3

LadyHolly, you have the patience of a saint. I would have said 'a replacement cable detector is cheaper, and it's coming out of your money'
Aw to puppy affection even if it was a bit unexpected!
Hope the tool box purchase does the job. See if you can order it through somewhere with cashback if you have time to, might as well try to get summat back

As @Sun_Addict's diary title says - progress not perfection. Sounds like plenty of progress is being made as well as future plans. My DH never quite finishes a job at the first attempt. I think it's because his parents were perfectionists so if he could say the task wasn't yet finished then he might not be criticised by them. Drives me nuts and my mantra is "good enough is good enough". Just going to gently prompt him again to finish sorting out a tangled mess of wires and chargers for phones that we no longer have. Apparently something in the pile might be useful 🤷♀️6

No good telling him things are to come out of his money as he doesnt have any. For many years he did but I stopped giving it when he stopped working and going out on his own. He does have a bank card for the joint account but he can be ridiculous with money so its better I have control. He has no interest in discussing finances and has learned over the years that if I say there is no money I am not joking. This after living in overdraft for a long time. The only reason I want him to have an ISA is in case anything happens to me he has easy access to a decent amount while things are settled.
It must be something about men with perfectionist parents. A friend once said about his father " even his iron filings are in rows". Sounds weird but his dad was a model engineer so it mad sense.Blackcats said:As @Sun_Addict's diary title says - progress not perfection. Re finding an odd job person, try phoning your local church office? I did that years ago and the admin person recommended the bestest painter and decorator. Then more recently recommended a person who has just retired and wanted smallish odd jobs so that they kept feeling "useful", whilst boosting their coffers. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?5

satchmo1 thank you for the suggestion.Evening allMIA yesterday due to a theatre trip. An enjoyable evening with no hassles. Spent some time looking at shows for next year. In general I have to be quick to book as I need the access seats.Main shop done yesterday afternoon. The sm has parking machines which show how long you have been in store. This week 22 minutes from the time the car entered the car park. Bearing in mind Mr LH always parks as far away from the shop as possible I thought that was pretty good. Two items sold but one was for someone else so the money will be passed over when I see him.Time spent at the solicitor arranging our wills which we will sign very soon. She asked us about POAs but as they charge a small fortune I will sort them out myself in the next few days.Dd rang today to ask if we will dog sit our dgds collie on Boxing day when they all gather at dds for Christmas dinner. We dont go as Mr LH is a miserable so and so with regard to such events and I dont feel right leaving him on his own over the main Christmas days. We have agreed but have asked if they will bring him at least once before then as he has never been inside the house and only met us once.I still havent done the ironing but it wont run away. I need to defrost the freezer tomorrow before the carpet is laid on Friday. The freezer lives in a cupboard in the hallway and usually leaks water all over the carpet when being defrosted. I will have to find a solution before next time.Hope you are all having a good evening.

Mr LH sounds so much like Mr SA, I’ve said it before but they’re like two peas in a pod. In the past he wouldn’t go anywhere to the point of it being embarrassing turning down invites. He was also slow to progress jobs pre illness days, now he just doesn’t do them at all.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

Mr LH used to be out a lot with various hobbies. After being bullied at work he completely changed.Sun_Addict said:Mr LH sounds so much like Mr SA, I’ve said it before but they’re like two peas in a pod. Evening allA busy day but most importantly no money spent. Bank account checked.Freezer defrosted and cleaned.Mr LHs tool boxes, books and bookcase plus tools left by Mr LH upstairs all moved from the landing. A heavy Octagonal box that I use to store packing stuff in moved to the conservatory which invovolved moving a blamket chest and a fair bit of the garage contents. All this to clear the way for the carpet fitters tomorrow. We are apparently the first on their job list so will be hear about 9am.We also have friends puppy arriving about 8am leaving them in peace to move house.2 loads of washing done and a hand wash. All hung up in the small amount of space left in the bedroom after moving the landing stuff.I am very tired now and struggling for breath a bit. I think it could be a short walk later but will do as much as i can.Have a good evening.3
