@ladyholly no judgement, just hugs and joining you in tears. As all your lovely friends above say, you have done everything and more; far more than anyone else would or could have done. I've heard that when the day comes, all our pets lead us over the rainbow bridge; then there are no more tears or partings. All my love to you all Humdinger xxx2

aw so very sorry to hear this but you are absolutely doing the right thing. As a dog lover myself I know its sometimes the very kindest thing we can do for them. You wouldn't have had a minute's rest wondering if he was going to lunge again and if you would be ready for him and strong enough to hold him. As you also say, with his history of escapes you would not have been able to live with yourself if you'd caught up to him menacing somebody.
Joining everyone else sending soaking wet teary hugs for your hard day tomorrow but you are definitely doing a good thing.

Aww hugs here as well, it’s horrible having a reactive dog and with the size of him and his history you are doing the best thing. The alternative would be he would be seized and taken from you and be scared and stressed and pts. This way you can be with him and he will not know.Sealed pot challenge 822

I do understand what a truly horrible decision this must have been for you both. You haven't failed at all. It's earlier people in Bear's life who have done that. All of us who follow your diary on here know how hard you have worked with training & integration & I agree with everyone who has already said that you did everything you could for a different outcome. I've been thinking of you today & send my love.

Just a quick one to thank everyone for your kind replies. We will never forget him and will miss him dreadfully.
Bear was a very good boy at the vets and passed very peacefully. He will be coming home in due course to join the other five.
The vet was lovely and said she had a similar experience a while ago with a family dog so I didn't feel quite so bad.
More in a day or two.9 -
Just getting in quickly before the site crashes again to say I hope everything went as peacefully as can be today.
And while it's not a happy birthday, my birthday acknowledgments to you, we're all glad you're here and keeping going, and I hope you can have some nice food and drink and time to yourself as a small celebration when you next feel up to it x2 -
Im so sorry to read this news and from your posts it is clear how loved and appreciated Bear was. These are the decisions that are the absolute hardest ones to make and I hope you find some comfort in the fact you gave him a kind, loving home when he needed it most xxNov/Dec 24 £39 564
