Evening all.I made it into town and back both ways on the bus so very pleased with myself. Walking was very slow though. I bought 4 books so looking forward to those . They are nearly all by authors I dont know so it will be interesting. I didnt get anywhere else as I had had enough but I have proved I can do it. I was hoping to go and look at the new market that is in town on Wednesdays but Mr LH has decided we are clearing out the garage next week. As it is supposed to rain on and off all week and he wants to use the conservatory for storage I dont know if it will happen. This is the precursor of his classic car restoration when we get my inheritance. One load of washing done and hung up.Sun_Addict I would try getting into town on the scooter and should have enough range but the pavements here are awful and although I can use it on the road I am not convinced the drivers here would be patient with something only going 8mph even assuming I could avoid the potholes. It was also raining this morning so the scooter was out anyway.jwil I have found Harry Bosch in my book. I just hadnt read far enough. He does also come up in the Ballard books which is waht I am reading at the moment.Nothing much the rest of today as now quite tired. Just Bear to walk later.Have a good evening.

And what big nice thing that is entirely your interest and enjoyment are you doing with your inheritance? 🙂2

I totally agree with the posts above. You need something that’s just for you after all your hard work and stress.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

Another agreeing you should have something for you. Even if it's holiday out of the house whilst all the proposed works are going on!1

I agree, definitely do something for you as well.
Glad the trip into town went ok and you got some new books!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -
Definitely agreeing to this! It was your bil and ultimately your sister, you were the one dragging yourself down to regularly visit even when it was exhausting you to see and help him. You'd wanted the garden cleared at your house but everything had to be kept until, if I remember correctly and I apologise if I am misremembering, the news of the inheritance when suddenly you got some help clearing rubbish and stuff from the garden because Mr lh wanted access to the car in the garage after 20 years (or however long it was) !
Im sure like most couples you are happy to share good fortune however old cars have a way of running away with money well beyond their financial value. (Watch a couple of episodes of 'bangers and cash:restoring classics' to see how often they get back about third of what they've spent restoring a car.) It might be worth thinking about what figure you'd be happy to spend on the car and transfer that over. Take the same figure and transfer it to an account of your own then its there waiting on when you decide what you'd like to do.
OR...
Would you think about moving rather than doing loads of work to your current house ? Get you away from these nutters that live near you? And to a town that doesn't have everything in opposite locations to each other? Try to future proof as much as possible and make your life as easy as possible? Then you could spend the money on getting it how you want it inside and out. Obviously depending on how much (nothing to do with us, I'm not asking about that) you might be in the wonderful situation that you can buy for cash whilst still living in current house, do any work to the new one then move in and put yours on the market. Then once it sells, you can get on with enjoying life easily again, the car can get done up, the garden can be pottered in.
Exciting times ahead, tinged with sadness of course as always comes with an inheritance, but it might open up some new possibilities for you both as well as Bear 🐻

Oh yes, definitely something special for you, @ladyholly. I treated myself to a piano from my inheritence from my parents. I'd wanted a proper piano for years & as Mum & Dad were both professional musicians, it seemed the perfect purchase. I absolutely love it & often think of them when I'm playing it.
You've had so much hassle dealing with your B-i-L's estate & when it's finally all sorted out, you totally deserve a treat that is just for you.

I know how much car restorations cost as we have done it before. Moving out of the house isnt really an option as trying to find somewhere else to live round here would be a nightmare as we live in a tourist area and summer is coming.and would upset Bear. The toerags who are breaking in to the house are not in our town as we live about 100miles away from my bil. Thats not to say we dont have them here as well. We actually cleared the garage not the garden and that was so I could get my mobility scooter in. The bit we still need to clear is at the other end.Our garage has doors at both ends. The account details of where the inheritance will go is actually my account and not the joint account so I am way ahead of you there.
I wouldnt want to move from where we are now as we have great neighbours, the green area right outside the door, no road to the front of the house so it is quiet and the back is a cul de sac so also little taffic.
Evening allThank you all for your lovely supportive posts. The truth is I havent really had or done anything for me for so long I dont know what I want except possibly a new wardrobe of clothes as I feel distinctly scruffy. I wouldnt bother reading any further as this is going to be full of woe is me so boring to others but I need to vent.My breathing and mobility has been awful today so not feeling at my best as every time I move I hurt and sound like a steam train. There has been another attempted break in to the house this lunchtime. This time by three 15year olds. Thanks to bil's neighbour (who is actually on holiday) getting notifications and calling the police who attended pretty quickly and have actually caught them. They have been banned from the property but I am not sure that will help as they shouldnt have been there anyway. Due to their age their parents will have been informed. I can only hope they are decent and and have strong words. I think its time they went back to school as they are obviously bored and looking for mischief.I have moved my stuff that was behind the conservatory sofa in case mr LH wanted to start moving stuff today. He didnt.2 loads of washing done and hung up.I did a roast beef dinner with wine but I should have just done something much simpler as Mr LH left about three quarters of it and refused the bottle of wine I had bought. I know it is because he is upset re the house but it irritates me that he didnt say anything until it was sat in front of him.I will just be so glad when all this is ended as there has just been one thing after another.I hope you have all had a better day than me and have a peaceful evening.
