Remind me again what the legal onus on you is regarding the land development..
I'm fairly sure your BiL intended something nice for you and others and would be appalled to know it had turned into a situation where you were having sleepless nights.
What has the solicitor advised about what the charity would be within their rights to do if you said 'this has dragged on long enough, I have worked too hard and spent too much money to have to be involved in everyone else's issues from 1st Feb, so sort it yourselves or don't, I'm putting the property back on the market then'?1 -
The will has left the value of the development land to the charity. I get the house and garden. From what the solicitor has said if I do anything to compromise the sale I can be sued for the land value which is quite substantial. In fact more than the house. I have been left in a very difficult position if this pipe isn't deep enough as the land will not be able to be accessed except through the garden. His parcel of land is the only bit affected as the pipe runs under the boundary of his land and that belongings to the other landowners.
It is the waiting for the solicitors to agree the contract causing the delay and it still has to go to mine. Altogether there are 3 solicitors involved. Guaranteed to cause chaos and delays.

I hope it's all sorted soon. What a poisoned chalice."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

@ladyholly - That all sounds just so complicated. I wish you weren't having sleepless nights over it, but I can understand why you are.

Evening allThanks all. I did sleep a bit better last night but kept waking up and then my brain starts working overtime. The trouble is I get the elephant syndrome - you know someone says dont think of an elephant and then thats all you can think of.It all not helped by Mr LH and friends telling me (nagging me) to get nasty with them and I should do this and should do that. There is very little I can do except to chase the land agent weekly but to be fair to there isnt much he can do either.I have done very little today as I woke up with a stiff neck and should. Probably sleeping awkwardly or its stress. I have had a go atcleaning the TV screen but when I looked all I have done is put different streaks on it. The rest of the lounge has been dusted. The good thing is there has been no money spent, the kettle has been filled with just enough water for tea coffee etc, I turned the heating right down this morning unfortunately Mr LH turned it up again when he got up. I will say the cat litter is doing a good job on the condensation upstairs. Mr LH uses it in the car as it has a roof that rises and the canvas part is subject to mould where it gets damp but there is little or no ventilation unless the roof is raised. He does do that from time to time but it has to be done when its dry and in the winter that can be difficult. It has been quite warm today but when I looked out about 6.30 it wa quite foggy. I will see what its like when Bear goes out about 9pm.Thats my day, just relaxing. Off now to continue with Shetland. I am on episode 3 of series 3 so not many more to go.Have a good evening.5

I hope you get positive progress on the house and land sale soon. It's so hard when things that have such huge implications for us are taken out of our hands by officials and experts who are able to make the most straightforward things complex and slow.
Enjoy Shetland. I really like the series and books. Same author as Vera - very clever writer!2 -
Nothing worse than things being in the hands of others. Especially when there’s not a lot you can do. It’s alright people telling you what you should be doing/saying but they’re not in your shoes! Anything to do with selling property is extremely stressful and it really shouldn’t be. In a previous life I’ve worked in an estate agents, land agents and a surveyors so know the score.Shetland is on my to watch list but not started on it yet.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

Surely they should know that you of all people would be standing up for yourself and kicking off if there was anything to kick! Hope you manage a good night's sleep2

I've been thinking of using cat litter in my car to hopefully try and reduce the windows inside misting up. Sounds like it is worth a shot, thank you!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do".
