I totally agree with you about the film of the book. It hardly ever works & sometimes doesn't even seem recognisable. Like the main character in the book being brunette & in the film being blonde & a completely different character/temperament. I wonder why an author would agree to that twisting of their book & then wonder who advised them on their contract. I actually saw an Agatha Christie that they even changed the murderer.

If you want films that follow books the best I have found is Alistair Maclean as he usually did the screenplay as well.

Evening allA parrtly successful shopping day. 2 hot water bottles bought to replace our very ancient ones. They cost more than I expected but as our old ones are years old its not surprising. I got ones with nice fluffy covers and had to move them rapidly after Bear was eying them up thinking they are soft toys which he can destroy in 2 minutes flat. After searching and searching I found 2 pairs of trousers the correct size and also got some underwear which I badly need. I have at last sorted my wardrobe and put some to take to the charity shop and some to put in the bin. There are also a couple of items I want to try on before deciding what to do with them. I was just looking at jumpers and a random lady asked whether I though something suited her. I had to say it wasnt the best but pointed out I am definately not a fashion guru as I wear whats comfortable and dont bother about fashion. I was also looking for a nice top to wear for the theatre but couldnt find anything I liked so will have to look further.By the time I got home I was shattered so had a spell reading my book before Mr LH appeared.
This afternoon he had a look at the scooter as it is a bit rattly. I also got told off for not pumping up the tyres. To be honest I hadnt even thought about it. They are done now and I cleaned the bodywork as it was quite muddy where I take bear round the field. While Mr LH was fiddling with the scooter I dusted the bedroom and hoovered upstairs. I have also eventually finished putting the washing away.I have sold something so will wrap that in the morning and there will be the couple of items where the auction ends tomorrow. It was very cold this morning but has been quite sunny and warmed up to the point I only needed a light coat for walking bear. When I looked out as it was going going dark this evening it looked as though it might be cold again tonight. I dont know if I will get a lie in tomorrow as it depends on whether Bear gets restless. Like children dogs dont get the clock going back.Have a good evening and I hope you get a nice lie in tomorrow morning.5 -
I usually far prefer the books to the screen version, however, I think that the BBC series of the Strike books is very well done and now when I read the books I see the tv version of the characters. I'm currently reading the Vera books after watching the tv series. I think that Brenda Blethyn makes a great Vera but it is so much better for the plot to unfold over a lovely long book rather than trying to squeeze it into 2 hours.4

Evening allI did write a post yesterday but it doesnt seem to have appeared here.Very odd.Nothing very notable has happened anyway Usual trip to PO yesterday with 5 parcels and another 3 to post tomorrow.Weekly shop this afternoon and Tesco is still in chaos. 3 lines of fridges still empty from last week. I assume they havent been turned on yet. I couldnt find any butter, margerine, lard and crisps so will get them at Sainsbury tomorrow along with several other items I couldnt find. I am told they are supposed to finish on the 23rd November but are two weeks behind anyway so will have to finish and leave everything at that point and return after Christmas to finish. I am sure people are doing as I am and going elsewhere for some things as they are getting fed up hunting. I couldnt even find a staff member on the floor to ask where things are.I spoke to my dd today to remind her we are going to the theatre tomorrow to see Joseph and the amazing techniclour dreamcoat done by our local amateur operatic company. I am really looking forward to it as they are usually very good.My dgd is off to Lanzarote on Friday with her boyfriend and his family. She is very excited. There were two dogs running around on the field when we took Bear out and he ignored them completely which was excellent and just what we want, there was also a young dog racing around on our green and he ignored that one too. Shame he didnt ignore the 2 vans that passed us but you cant have everything.Have a good evening
