Ouch to the clearance price! And the alarm company are just ridiculous.

It might be worth looking if there are any furniture reuse groups in your area - they are often less fussy than charity shops and the items go to people in need. They will often take bric a brac too - kitchen stuff etc.  They will be looking for practical furniture rather than decorative - so chest of drawers, wardrobes, beds, seating etc rather than bookcases and display cabinets, but it might be a way of reducing some of the bulk.

I know it's easier to just get rid of the lot in one go, and hope you have some better luck with the others.

We booked the British Heart Foundation to clear our parents' home back in early 2019. To be fair, we had taken many sackfuls of portable stuff to various charities, brought it home with us or given to friends & neighbours, but there was still a lot left, esp furniture. We donated the grand piano to a local school which left the vast majority of the furniture & assorted kitchen & homeware. BHF came & had a look & quoted £200 to remove it all. They did a very good job. I think a smaller house than you are dealing with - 3 bedrooms, 3 reception rooms, kitchen & bathroom. Our solicitor said that Wood Green Animal Charity also did house clearance to raise funds if BHF couldn't help us.
I know there's a cost involved, but do outsource where you need to, as it is an exhausting time.

We have removed as much as we can of the small stuff but our house is now pretty full. My dd has had a couple of bits but her house is smaller than ours. Every time I go down I fill the dustbin with stuff. The tip down there is very specific as to what they will take and different tips take different things so that is not so simple as ours where they take most things. I am hoping my sil can hire a van when I go down at the end of the month and we will bring back as much as possible even if it goes straight to the tip.   I think a trick might be to try to tidy up a bit so it looks less than it is. Mind I dont think I can disguise the couple of hundred books and how much I can do depends on my energy level and how hot it is.

It has been a fairly pwaceful day. I have listed a couple of things but most of my time has been trying to sort theatre programmes into logical jo lots. I think dates are the best way to go picking out ones that have the older stars to list seperately.

The wheel for my scooter has arrived and Mr LH has put it all back together so its ready to go when fully charged.

A friend came for a coffee and chat this afternoon which was nice. I am now going to get back to my pogrammes.

    Have a nic evening.

House clearance is very pricey.  We recently had a skip and the delivery driver was telling us tales of disreputable clearance companies fly tipping the contents.  The authorities seek to identify where the dumped load originates from and then prosecute the poor person who has used the clearance company.  He also told us how much it costs them to dispose of their collections commercially.
It's worth getting another quote but also making sure it's a reputable company.  And, most importantly, seeking to make things as easy as possible for you at such a busy and stressful time.

I thought I was going to have a nice quiet day but it hasnt worked out that way. I spent the morning sorting hundreds of theatre programmes into time periods so I could list some individually and some in mixed lots.

I was just settling for my afternoon nap after walking Bear and Mr LH decided we were going to sort the garage to see if the scooter would fit. The great thing is he has thrown out a load of stuff that he has been keeping for years. I say thrown out but its actually all in the back of the car waiting to go to the tip. We were going tomorrow but I dont know if we will as we are under a yellow warning for rain. It does go in the garage but will take some maneuvering to get it in. The good thing is it has saved us getting a second garden storage shed so over  £100 saved.

I booked the secure field for tomrrow but again not sure if we will go due to the weather. Bear is not keen on the rain and to be honest I am not dedicated either.

Had a small sale this afternoon but it has been a quiet weekend. I hope to do better next week.

Listing continues very slowly and now I am off to relax in our football free zone.

For those who watch the football have a good match and enjoy it whatever the result, for those that dont god luck avoiding it.

I wish our house was a football free zone 😆 Not watching it as such but it’s on as Mr SA enjoys it and I can’t deny him the final whoever was playing. However I have moaned a few times about overpaid footballers clutching their legs and rolling about at the slightest touch.

Great news about Mr LH throwing stuff out 🙂
