My DH only takes his state pension and even he ended up with a tax bill last year. His private pension is in a drawdown facility so is only really used when we need big jobs done around the house and I suspect the next big think will be a new to us car in a few years time. Of course on the drawdown he has to pay 20% of the whole lot!
Keeping the personal allowance the same is just so unfair to pensioners! The cut in NI doesn't even help us either!4 -
There has been nothing for pensioners in the budget. The theory by the chancellor (he who shall not be named) was that as we are getting what he describes as a good rise in state pensions we dont need anything else.Apparently a maximum of £221 pw is plenty to live on. Many get less than that especially older pensioners whose rate is £169 pw or less.

Evening all. I should add to my post above that I know there are many poeple who live on less than the pension. On to today. Tomato seedlings are making an appearance but have some way to go before they need transplanting. The courgettes are going great guns. I have been keeping track of the temperature in the greenhouse and in the last few days the lowest temp is on the up. Shame the daytime weather is so gloomy. No rain for tha last couple of days but it is supposed to be pretty wet tomorrow. Two parcels posted this morning and a little bit more in the bank. I am having a couple of restful days as I am at my BiL on Wednesday. I should have gone last week but as it was only a few days after my eye op I thought it better to wait a week. The fare hs gone up by £2 just to add to the rest of the costs.Great excitment for next Saturday. We have been offered a leather 3 seater settee and a reclining chair in very good condition for free. The owners of the furnished property were renting the house but have decided to sell to a friend of a friend who knows we desperately need new ones. The leather on ours has had it and the springs have gone at one end of the settee. All we have to pay for is a man and van. Our friend sorted that and got some quotes for us. The one we are going with is a good price and he has all the relevant paperwork. There hsnt been much money saving as I have ordered a DNA test for Bear. We have been told he is a Mudi x but his passport says Pumi but quite honestly he doesnt look much like either so purely for curiosity we will test him. He doesnt care what he is and neither do we. As I said just plain curiosity. It should also give some pointers to any future health problems he may have.Meals today. Breakfast - oats and fruit, lunch - scrambled egg and b & b, dinner leftover roast chicken, baked potato, sweet potato, carrots and broccoli. Snacks grapes and banana.6

Evening all.
I forgot to say I had a lovely surprise on Sunday when dd and sil called in with flowers. They both work in catering so had been frantically busy all day with it being Mothering Sunday. I usually just get a text so the effort after work was much appreciated. What horrible weather for much of the day. At one point the rain was so heavy the sound of it on the conservatory roof frightened Bear who came rushing into the kitchen. I was going to look at the spring onion I planted a few days ago but the path to the greenhouse was flooded so didnt get there. Instead I cleaned out the recycling boxes. They are never properly emptied so any paper left in them becomes papier mache and eventually start to smell. Nasty job but done now. I got wet doing it and by lunchtime I realised my clothes were still wet.Shopping done this afternoon and wonders it didnt actually rain until we were almost home so only got a bit wet bringing it into the house.Up at 5.30am in the morning to go to bil. I just hope the trains run ok.Weighed myself this morning and another 1lb lost. This brings the total since my gp weighed me before Christmas to a whole stone. I really didnt start properly until a few weeks ago so quite pleased with the slow progress. Tomorrow I am taking a sandwich with cucumber and the lightest cheese named after a US city plus a banana. I do get a sandwich at my bil but always get hungry as its a long day.Meals. Breakfast - oats and fruit, lunch - Tuna and b&b, dinner - huntsman chicken, rice, broccoli, butternut squash, runner beans and peas. Snacks - banana, grapes and a kitkat rabbit.Have a peaceful evening6 -
