I was so sorry to hear about your lovely dog. It's very difficult getting used to a home without them. It's clear what a wonderful life you gave her and how much she was loved.
when my lovely old cat died I felt so bereft but was sure I'd never get another cat. Lo and behold about 8 weeks later in our local parish magazine there was a plea from cats protection looking for a home for a very timid black cat. I picked up the phone, went to visit (didn't even get to see him as he was cowering at the back of his run). Anyway I thought that even if the best I could give him was food and shelter then it was worth it. The foster carer bust into tears when I said I'd have him. I somehow ended up with a second cat too - much younger and very, very laid back. The scaredy-cat cat is now a very affectionate boy and both of them are much loved and give much love.
I hope you are feeling better.

Yesterday was a tough day as Miss W came home albeit in a box. Today has been better as we are coming to terms with being a 2 dog family. People keep asking if we are getting another one but as Mr LH is well over 70 and I am not far short we are not planning on having more dogs as we would always have rescues and as there is no one to have it if anything happens to us (DD does not want a dog) it would end up back in rescue which we dont think is fair on tthe dog. However if, when the others end their days we might seek to foster an old rescue who is unlikely to be rehomed so they can see out their days in comfort.Having said all that we never look for dogs they just seem to appear so the best laid plans may change. We had a lovely roast beef dinner this evening with a bottle of Cava. Well I had one glass and DH is in the process of finishing the bottle. Sparkling wine doesnt keep.4

There is an elderly chap where I live lost his dog recently. He now has a puppy (poodle) he’s 92 and still very active.I love Cava, you can keep it with a teaspoon in the bottle until the next day, although it’s so drinkable it rarely lasts that long 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

I am afraid that cava never gets chance to keep. As Mr LH doesnt go to bed until very late or that should be early (2is at the earliest but often 3 or 4 am) he has plenty of time to finish it.Went to Mr S and A**i this morning for the bits I cant get at Mr T tomorrow. It was lovely and quiet. I spent quite a long time chatting to my neighbour whose partner died of covid during the first lockdown and now her brother is very poorly. She is, I think, quite lonely although she does have friends that she sees. Not a very productive day except for the shopping. I must try harder tomorrow but I need to post a couple of parcels in the morning and then shopping in the afternoon.Mr H and the little one appear to be coming to terms with the loss of Miss W Mr Hs behaviour has improved, he is a bit of the show off and the little one is much livelier although that could be the change in medication. When we took them out this afternoon it felt really cold after the last couple of days.Cold beef and chip for dinner and there is enough left for Mr LH supper and my lunch tomorrow so not bad for £7.00.1

Sorry to hear about the vets attitude to putting your dog to sleep. You know your dog best and what is best for them and someone judging you makes a hard situation even harder.
We had a similar situation as we adopted two elderly Cairn terrier crosses (estimated to be 11/12 when we got them). H went downhill very quick at the end (he had lymphoma). On the Saturday afternoon he couldn't stand by himself and wouldn't eat so we booked him in to be put to sleep on the Sunday morning (as no appointments available), but in the morning he was walking round and eating again! We decided to still go ahead but the locum vet on duty was very judgemental when he walked into the surgery as she 'couldn't see anything wrong with him'.
Well done for adopting oldies, they deserve a home as much as the younger dogs but they are definitely an expensive hobby! Hope your little one continues to keep well and you get used to being a 2 dog household.

Posted my parcels this morning and Mr T this afternoon. I also planted some lettuce and watered the greenhouse. Usual dog walks today. Its MrLHs turn to walk Mr H this evening and I will take the little who usually manages to walk to the end of the path at the front of the house and then wants to come home. 3 loads of washing done and hung up. I have never had a TD and dont have a washing line. I put one rrack in the gaarden and then late this afternoon I realised it was raining!! Fortunately I caught it before it got too wet.Have done a little bit more ebay listing so hopefully some of it will sell. All books which are very slow but a little is better than nothing. Another £10 to the loan acoount.Tomorrow I am going to se my BIL which means catching the 7.30am train. The staion take me about 15 minutes to walk to and I try to get there early to get my ticket. I dont get it in advance as it make no difference to the cost and there is always the chance planns could change. I hate the journey as I spend most of the day traveling which I find very tiring. The one good thing is fish and chips supper. I will investigate the rail sale for next month and see if it includes my route as I travel to and from very small stations.1

A disturbed night last night with the little one needing to go out. MrLH took her as he was still up but she made sure I was woken about 1.15am and then it took me ages to get back to sleep so having a peaceful evening and may well have a snooze.Back from BIL. Trains went quite well especially as there is a track problem between Reading and London Paddington which has been causing delays all day. I was dreading the journey home as it is the train from London I catch for the last leg of my journey but we were only 6 minutes late. Southern were perfect for once.It was good to see BIL although we talk regualarly on the phone. He is slowing down and finding things more difficult. I have suggested a gardener as he has a large garden but he is reluctant so I said just to cut the lawn but he can do that as he leans on the lawnmower! I did point out that by not doing it he would have more energy to do the things he wants to do himself.. I dont think he will but I shall keep trying. He is 90 at the end of the year. The garden is more important to him than the house.I have brought back a few more books but as they are nearly all heavy one there arent many. I dont think any of them will fetch much but it means his mind is at rest knowing they have gone.Watered the garden as everything is in pots so it needs doing regularly on my return and I have got in touch with a company to come and give us a quote for a new garden fence as ours is literally falling apart. Hop[efully they will get back to us soon..Lovely fish and chip dinner. We actually share one lot between us and mr LH has a small battered sausage so it doesnt cost a huge amount.Thats it for now Time for a nap I think before taking Mr H out as it is my turn tonight. Bad planning on my part.1

Oh that Paddington/Reading journey brings back memories of a work trip to Reading. There’s normally a direct train to Reading from where I live except for the one week I was going (repairs to the line). I ended up getting 3 trains there and 3 back. I remember standing in the middle of a platform at Paddington with no idea which of the many trains I needed to get on. Thankfully a very helpful station employee put me on the right train 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

I find Reading a very confusing station because you have to go up to the concourse and then down the escalator to the platforms and then the platforms are very long with a platform 8 and 8a ..... maybe it's just me though 🤷♀️You are doing well with selling the books - every little helps.1

It is years since I was at Reading station and that was just to transfer to the coach to Heathrow as it was a qhicker way to get there.I actually get the train from Bristol and it just happens to be the London train. The last bit of the journey is quite short but by that time I am tired and just want to get home. (Myasthenia can make you feel very tired even when you havent done much and when tired your muscles, which is what myasthenia affects, dont work well. My eyes dont open properly so I end up with neck ache from holding my head in an unnatural position so I can see, my speech starts to slur and I have difficulty moving my mouth to get certain words out and my balance is shot to pieces. If the police ever wanted a sobriety test by walking in a straight line I am done for at the best of times, if I am tired it is even worse. I am convinced people who dont know me think I am drunk half the time from the way I weave all over the place and tend to bump into things as my balance goes. I do have the occasional fall but it doesnt happen often thank goodness.2
