Reasons to be Cheerful

I woke up aching (in a good way) and itching (in a less good way, having been bitten by mozzies) after several hours tidying up my garden yesterday. It's not how I want to spend my time but once I'm out there I realise how much good it does me.
I had a cheerful conversation with my little niece this morning - she'll be going into Yr3 in September and I was encouraging her to think about her packed lunchbox choices, explaining the concept of a balanced diet. My suggestion of carrot sticks was met with ridicule: "carrots are for horses". She feeds local horses regularly and was serious, she doesn't enjoy salad at all.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.6 -
1. DGGD learned to ride a bicycle without stabalisers , just got on wobbled a bit ,and went like a demon pedalling. She was four in March I'm so proud of her she is one very determined little lass and won't let anything beat her
2. pleased that Ukraine won last night ,had a super meal at Dds and we watched it all the way through and giggled at some of the costumes
3. Happy for my youngest DDs husband as he is a Liverpool supporter and one of my grandsons Henry who, like his dad is a keen supporter.
4. Above DGS Henry has started his final exams at Uni, and he will be home for good next month , if not sooner.
5. Just done my menus for the week, and no shopping needed. All veg prepped for the week
6. Dropped my DGS off to work this morning and back home for coffee and feet up now
weather a bit bleugh at the moment ,such a change from yesterday , but fingers crossed it may brighten up later then I'm off to youngest DDs for dinner tonight, so no cooking required either tonight

My reason to be cheerful? I'm still alive.Fell down the stairs in the dark last week, cracked my skull and a vertabrae. Could easily have been paralysed or dead without a word of exageration. Had great care from the ambulance teams (took 4 of them to lift me onto a stretcher as I was jammed at the bottom of the stairs) and the staff at the hospital. I'm bashed and bruised and in a lot of pain, but I'll live to get over it, hopefully the pain subsides soon. Slinky - how are you feeling today? Sounds like you were blessed to avoid serious injury. I am always telling Mr F not to go up or down the stairs in the dark.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Slinky - I hope you get better soon. That must have been terrifying as well as painful. I always worry about falling in my house, because even with three other people here, they wouldn't hear anything because of meds they take and ear problems. The cats and dogs wouldn't do anything to help either. We are lucky you are still with us.6

Slinky sending healing vibes, hoping you are on the mend. X
Today has been sunny and I’m off work for 2 days after working the weekend, I was able to do washing and get it dry and tidy the garden .
also been to see a relative who is ill, she was allowed home for a few hours which certainly cheered her up a bit.
Tea is cooking , I was more organized today.
Hope everyone is well .Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
That must have been a frightening experience for you, Slinky. Take care - and don't walk around in the dark next time!
Today's SM delivery arrived with just one out of stock (not a disaster) and one substitute (acceptable). The delivery driver refunded me in full for a short dated pack of cod fillets (today's use by date) and transferred all the shopping from his crates into mine, without me having to ask. Lovely man.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.5 -

I know how scary it is to fall down just a few steps, you must have been terrified!5 -
I have many reasons.
1. We don't have the most money in the world (we don't do badly by any manner of means!), but we have enough. I lost over 80% of my annual income due to not being able to work in the lockdowns (that includes what SEISS I got... I actually earned about 3% of my previous annual income, which is soul destroying when you've worked so hard to build up a business) and then some people never coming back afterwards... but we learned to live on one income and we can still, just about, do that.
2. I got my tomatoes and peppers potted up today and, as I was working, I kept getting a waft of the lovely pink rose that is planted nearby.
3. The one I'm personally most excited about - some of my plant cuttings that I took last year started blooming today! It's very satisfying to be able to make something out of nothing.6 -
I am just happy to
1. Have a roof over my head thats watertight
2. Enough food in the cupboard to eat, and sufficient means to cook it
3. Clean fresh water to drink if I wish, many sadly don't
4. A family that I adore, and who in turn care for me
5. Reasonable health, at my age ... wrong side of my seventiesits a bonus
5. Seeing all my 7 grandchildren grow up safe warm and fed and living long enough to see my two little great granddaughters who are real cuties at 4 & 2
6. I'm not wealthy financially, but I can afford my holiday in July, and a short break in the autumn this year.
7. Still got my 'marbles' at least and a wide circle of friends,
Who need wealth really ? All the wealthy folk I've ever met in my life have never seemed particulaly happy with their wealth. Most seem to stress about it all the time
I can go for a walk around the lake in my local park and if the sun is shining and the birds are singing its the smaller good things I enjoy.
Seeing the Mamma Duck herding her little brood across the lake is lovely to me, and that I enjoy more than fancy shopping or designer clothes.
Nothing wrong with those either if that's what you like ,but to me just getting up in the morning is a bonus as I have survived two bouts of cancer, so to me, life and simple things, are the things that make me happy
