It has been a beautiful spring weekend and whilst the misery of winter feels far behind us now I am struggling in the cheerful dept. Which is nonsensical when I have everything to be grateful for.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.6 -
@Rosa_Damascena I know what you mean, I had a lovely day in the garden with my tortoise and decided will not be so quick to agree to do favors for others as it takes up so much time 2 days this week spent helping others.21k savings no debt4

Hi chums,
Bright but breezy here in Kent
1. had a short walk across to book my eye test this morning , earlist they could manage was July Oh well gives me time to save for some new glasses I guess
2. DD gave me a box of 10 large eggs last night as she came home from their few days away with a glut of them so some sponge cakes look likely to be baked this week.
3. One grandson has his interview for his teaching post this Wednesday so I have everything crossed for him.
4. the other one is awaiting his interview date, may here this week.
5. All of my washing had a nice blow on the line and is now dry so I'm pleased with that , most of it is able to be floded and put away so no ironing ,even more pleased with that
6. Walked around the little Tesco metro store but only spent a pound on a loaf of seeded brown bread ,nothing more needed this week shopping wise
so I'm preety cheeful as its almost the end of April and only 68 days until my holidays

I've had a day in the kitchen today using up all the food odds and ends and have made:
4 chilli, mint & lamb pasties (lamb scraps from a joint plus oddments of veg)
5 mince tarts from the pastry trimmings (jar of Xmas mince bought in 2019, still good)
11 sage & onion stuffing balls (bag of bread crusts used up)
8 fruit scones (last bit of thick yogurt diluted with some milk)
A banana loaf (one banana that's too ripe for my liking)
It all helps with the budget and nothing goes to waste.
Five days left till the end of the month and I don't need any shopping this week. I have £39.28 left in my food budget so I've decided to roll over £4.28 to next month, keep £15 in a separate purse towards some meat or fish for the freezer and put £20 in my winter squirrel fund. I'm really pleased with that especially as I'd already trimmed the monthly food budget by £12. Onwards and upwards.Be kind to others and to yourself too.6 -
Freebie coffee morning at Dobbies tomorrow then home to make a big vat of carrot and coriander soup I have just sat and peeled all of the rest of my carrots tonight so will make the soup tomorrow .I have dug out some peanut butter cookie dough from the freezer and will bake them tomorrow. I also am going to peel another batch of apples tomorrow to make a crumble.Using up as much as possible from my stocks to save any need for shopping this week.

My reasons to be cheerful today are all about nature - I stepped out of my door to take a short walk and heard a cuckoo calling.I hadn't gone 10 yards when a loud twittering made me look up, the first swallow of spring was on the telegraph wire singing it's heart out. Yes, one swallow doesn't spring make, but it and the cuckoo made my morning.Just round the corner from my place the verges are full with celandines just beginning to bloom and, to round things off, my clematis has three full blooms. I haven't seen it in flower for three years when I was away with DM.Such things help to bring joy back into my life.8

Was given some rhubarb so will stew it and freeze.
The garden absolutely full of flowers. Tiny raspberries starting to sprout.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
My family 30 miles away are now free from Covid and chicken pox.
After 6 weeks I can visit on Friday.
