Nationwide refused to give me £125 for switching

It just seems highly confusing then, its certainly fooled me.jimjames said:
As indeed you can and I did. But it still has to be a non Nationwide account you switch to Nationwide.emmajones1976 said:That clarifies nothing. It clearly suggests an EXISTING Nationwide account holder can do something in internet banking and still get the £125.
My reading of it is, if you have a FlexPlus account (for example) already, you can do something in internet banking and get the £125 by opening another account.0 -
As confirmed by the first two sentences which could not be clearer:jimjames said:

"Important! You need to be switching from a non-Nationwide account to qualify for the bonus. You won't get it if you're changing an existing Nationwide account to a different account. "🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Can you provide the info you think contradicts?said:In my mind, if you read the full info regarding the switching criteria, it contradicts itself
This:
Existing customers who switch to the Nationwide FlexDirect get £125
With this:
You must also be switching from a non-Nationwide account.
How can you be an existing Nationwide customer with a non-Nationwide account?

OK So the opening statement about switching from a non Nationwide account to qualify should have stopped me reading any further. But i only read the bit that interested me most, and that section is the quote in my original post. Guess I should read all info in future, but the opening sentence contradicts the quote in the original post in my opinion.1

Many people, especially on here (and including me), have multiple accounts with different providers, so numerous Nationwide customers will also have non-Nationwide accounts!emmajones1976 said:How can you be an existing Nationwide customer with a non-Nationwide account?5 -
The fact its confused two people on here clearly suggests the wording on the MSE website could be clarified.2

When you use the "Switch to..." link in online banking it almost immediately starts talking about "the account you will switch to Nationwide" on the online form to complete. I also suspect that when you reach the point of having to add account details, it literally won't accept a Nationwide account because it wouldn't then be a "switch" - although I'm not willing to go through the process that far to see for certain.
Example.
If right now I clicked into my existing FlexDirect account, and used the "switch to Nationwide" option to Switch my Santander current account to Nationwide - I would be an existing Nationwide customer (because of the existing Flexdirect, as mentioned) switching an external account into Nationwide. I would expect to be eligible for the switch bonus at £125.
If I did not have that existing FlexDirect, and chose to go to Nationwide as a new customer, switching my Santander account in, I would not be an existing Nationwide customer at the time of instigating the switch, and would expect to be eligible for the bonus at £100.
If I attempted to switch my Flexaccount to my Flexdirect via the "switch to Nationwide" process, I would expect that to fail on all counts.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

MSE have fallen victim to their desire to please, so have combined a factual piece about an offer with one of their beloved 'loopholes', and in doing so have ended up with something that can apparently be misconstrued if not read carefully enough (others have also fallen into this trap previously).emmajones1976 said:The fact its confused two people on here clearly suggests the wording on the MSE website could be clarified.
The key message, as ever, is to check the terms on the provider's site, rather than accepting a third party precis at face value!7 -
There are many examples, even if you don't have multiple current accounts with different providers (I have three). Perhaps you just have a Nationwide mortgage or credit card, or maybe they hold your joint account but not your personal one, or a savings account, isa, etc.How can you be an existing Nationwide customer with a non-Nationwide account?4 -
OK, fair enough, do you not see how that MSE page can be misinterpreted though? Not everyone is a current account tart with 20 current accounts.Petriix said:
