Have a lot of fridges and freezers, need to have fridges for my kids drugs (twins both with Cystic Fibrosis and CF related diabetes both of which entail drugs in fridge) in addition to usual stuff and freezer for us and one for dog food, plus 2 teenage kids who are always on something electrical.

After being on hold for nearly an hour and 3 months of correspondence on their Messenger chat, Eon are now coming on 15th April to fit a gas meter.  Have asked as to how they are going to prove as to what I have used since I moved in at Dec 2013 to date.  I stress I have been paying and interestingly Eon have told me they took a reading in Jan 2020 for my gas, interesting as don't have one.  I also remember the meter man came then but was not allowed in by our cleaner as my wife and I were not in.

Looking forward to the video of the Mysterious Panel being removed !
They are only coming to fit a meter because they have no record of any meter being currently fitted, not that there is no meter.  If gas is being consumed then there is either a meter (and regulator) fitted or a pipe is coming from next door's supply, the latter being most unlikely.  I suspect that at the time the house was being rendered the door was missing from the cabinet so someone fitted a piece of board to prevent the meter from being damaged and forgot to remove it.

Are they still due to come tomorrow?

Just now realised the date.  Is it usual  for them to schedule a non-emergency visit on a Bank Holiday.

Hopefully they can get to the bottom of it for you.

Look forward to an update @JulesSheah

I wouldn't be holding my breath if I was the OP. Even if someone was to turn up then I doubt they could do anything as they would need to know where the incoming mains pipe was. They wouldn't try to moved the mysterious panel as they wouldn't want to be liable for any damage to the property.

That meter will have to go somewhere and before any internal tapping for a gas fire in the lounge.

Perhaps time for a trip to the builders merchants and get a gas meter box  -  on second thoughts perhaps just  a door £23.20  once that rendered area has been broken into.  OP already has a triangular key  (for the electric box) .Fitting a box is a straightforward job for a DIY man -  the meter fixer won't do it.

If he needs any physical alterations like digging holes then that £500 refund he was looking for will soon vanish.

I reckon that rendered bit may just pop off, have seen people use Manet's or spring clips to hold them on.
They should have turned up yesterday but unlike!y
Come on Jules did they find your meter?

Unless the gas supply pipe goes through that rendered meter box (and there is a cutoff valve there as well)  I wonder where it runs ?

I don't think this is as simple a job to fit a meter as OP thinks ?

I made contact with Eon on 5th April and advised them I was raising a complaint against them, I had called the energy ombudsman who said I had to raise a complaint and then after a further 8 weeks of inaction they can get involved.  The person I spoke with seemed to be helpful, to be fair most have come across as being helpful, but all it has been so far is words.  I then heard nothing until about 3 days ago when the person I spoke to emailed me and said they were going to send someone to "find" the meter.  I responded by sending, again, the correspondence from Barrett's which indicated where the meter ought to be, along with a photo of the flat panel where it ought to be.  Interestingly the day after I spoke to them on the 5th a chap arrived to read the meter, he did not work for Eon (meter readings are outsourced) but was a bit odd as he parked his car in my drive and normally the meter readers walk about the estate, so I believe he was only here to see my house only.  I showed him where it should be and he left.  I told Eon about it on their Messenger service and advised they would hear shortly on this.
I did realise that booking for 15th was somewhat odd as was Good Friday.
I still await on what action they are going to take, not holding breath as has now been 4 months since I raised that I did not think had a meter.
