When I viewed the car I noticed the fuel cap recommended minimum 98 RON fuel. I think this might mean She’ll V Power or the like. Can I get seay with using normal supermarket fuel? Will it affect the engine?
I think I would use diesel, as although usually a bit more expensive, you’ll get much better MPG. Heating oil might also work and is much cheaper.
  • Best brand to bring to the thread is Bird's.  Th liquid inside the tin is yellow.

Another indicator that you can't afford this car and would be better with a more run of the mill version of the car.

Who actually looks at the inside of the fuel filler cap as part of the test drive, and why?  What indication were you hoping to get from that?

I suppose, if you are not a "car" person, it would be possible to see the M Competition car on the forecourt and think it looks nice and sporty without being aware of the full implications of the model choice.  However, even the most "non-car" person knows there is a difference between a Dacia and a Ferrari, even though they both essentially do the same thing.  I am sure that the Dealer's patter would have given good indication of the status of the M Competition choice.

Anyway, it is clear, with all these indicators all over the place, this BMW is obviously faulty and going to be no end of grief.  Steer clear.
  • It wasn’t my Im intention to rile people up here. As I have said, this is my first ever performance car never had experience of any in the past.

My girlfriend and I drove past th bmw main dealer and we saw this one it’s a coupe and looks nice with the shiny big alloys and she was sold. She pointed out the seat issue having no lumbar. We obviously knew from having four exhaust tips that it was a fast car but our preference is really just looks and having a car that looks the part
  • We haven’t test drove it but as some posters gave mentioned the ride is harsh and we prefer something smooth and comfortable and there is now a chance that we may not buy this car and return instead coupled with realising that the running costs seem a bit far fetched and the car seems obnoxiously loud when the salesman started it up which my girlfriend wasn’t too impressed by.

My girlfriend still really seems to like the look of it but we have agreed that we will go for a good test drive first to see how this car drives. If it is harsh riding, loud and quite frankly dangerous it isn’t the car for us

You'd get 90% of the looks from a regular 4 series M Sport.  They can come with big shiny alloys too.  In fact you can get M4 replica 20 inch alloys for it.

You've having to fit a telematics box so that will constrain you to not being able to use the power as they'll be tracking your speed, acceleration and braking.
You want to try to run it on 95RON fuel
You want to run it on budget tyres
You want to cut corners on the main dealer servicing too.

And the to top it all, its your first performance car?

If there was any possibility this is a real thread i'd ask - Why bother?

  • Geez just looking for ways to cut costs on the car going forward I thought that’s the point of a motoring forum?

Save money by not buying a car you cant afford to drive
  • Excuse me but who are you to say what I can or can’t afford? Both my partner and I work so we think we deserve something nice to drive.
