Yes been a member since 2007 but lost my password a few years ago when I bought a new PC so re-joined after scratching my head and trying to find it. Loved the DM 101 period and now still when someone mentions him I smile, even now when I see a Yaris for sale locally I always think about calling them and asking if it has rear brakes.DB1904 said:

Wow- cant believe that was 2014, I remember the halcyon days of trying to get DM to do the custard test. Made me smile reading it again. How I wish is was still 2014......TadleyBaggie said:
Now there was a blast from the past. Here is the classic thread:k3lvc said:There's a bit of deja-vu going on here though - you've not had a Yaris in the past have you ?

I'd like to think the DM is doing okay where ever they are. I also remember "Student Phil" from back in the day and am still pleased to see "Crashy Time" still clinging on to the notion of house price collapse, I think since first reading his threads house prices must have doubled.
I've had some great help and advice across all the boards over the years, MSE forum has been a great resource and sometimes more entertaining than watching tv.4 -
You can “get away with” the cheapest no-brand tyres that you can find, but no-one who’s actually bought an M4 would ever do this.utopia55 said:
Can I get away with mid-range tyres, maybe ones that aren't as expensive as the Michelins?mclaren32 said:You have bought a circa £40k high performance car and you want to put budget tyres on it?
If you do that you won’t be able to enjoy the performance the car has to offer and god help you driving a 400+ BHP rear wheel drive car with cheap tyres.

TBH. If you really want to know the answers to your questions then find a BMW owners forum and ask fellow owners what they do.utopia55 said:I am very surprised by everyone's comments here. No, I am not a troll and this is my first performance car so I'm not too glued up on overall expectations (tyres etc.) but wondering if there are ways I can lower servicing/maintenance costs.
Car just had a major service in November last year so not due for another 15,000 miles or so and it comes with a 1 year main dealer warranty.
Asking on MSE is not really the right place to find out if cheap tyres will work & what servicing costs etc are on a specific car.Life in the slow lane0 -
Thoughts on the BMW Protect X? They adding it in free of charge as part of the negotiation. Is this worth it or am I better off going to a detailer?0

BMW Protect X includes a 2 stage GardX paint treatment and interior stain protection and leather treatment guardutopia55 said:Thoughts on the BMW Protect X? They adding it in free of charge as part of the negotiation. Is this worth it or am I better off going to a detailer?0 -
I am highly surprised that the Competition variant does not come with lumbar support! the regular M4 seats has lumbar support so why is it that the more expensive Competition model does not include this.0

Have you bought the car already? Because if not I'd have a long hard look at the finance side first.utopia55 said:Thoughts on the BMW Protect X? They adding it in free of charge as part of the negotiation. Is this worth it or am I better off going to a detailer?
Basically, it's a very expensive, very high performance car. Everything you do with it will cost a fortune, and no, you can't use any cheaper parts for it.
If you're already debating whether to repair the splitter or fitting cheap tyres then it's pretty clear you can't afford to run the car.
Cheap no name types, for example, are going to to be fine on a small, cheap, low perofrmance car, like a Citroen C1. But on a high performance rear wheel drive car it's asking for an expensive accident.2 -
The higher up into the performance ranges of cars you go, the more basic they are inside. It's generally a case of trading off comfort for performance. It's not going to be a comfortable car anyway.utopia55 said:I am highly surprised that the Competition variant does not come with lumbar support! the regular M4 seats has lumbar support so why is it that the more expensive Competition model does not include this.0 -
No. Unless you're happy to compromise on handling and the capability of getting that 400+ BHP down to the rear wheels?utopia55 said:

I have already paid for the car and signed the finance agreement and will be collecting next week from the main dealer.0
