BMW extended warranty can be had for £1800 if we decided to keep the car for more than a year but seems overly expensive. Been looking around at third party warranty which comes out significantly cheaper and will cover all repairs so seems viable financially. Instructed the dealer to carry out their BMW Protect X paint protection and interior protection package so all ready for collection this week.
So despite you prostrations that it was only a refundable deposit. If you did not like the car after a test drive. You have instructed dealer to spend money on the package... 🤣
That always goes down well with finance companies and warranty companies.

My girlfriend still really seems to like the look of it but we have agreed that we will go for a good test drive first to see how this car drives. If it is harsh riding, loud and quite frankly dangerous it isn’t the car for us
That's exactly what the car is - it's a high performance road legal track car. It's really intended for rich people to drive to track days or show off. It's fast and great on a track but will be awful for daily road use.
If you want a car that looks like it, then go and buy a regular 4 series with the M kit. It'll be about half the purchase price, half the running costs and be much nicer to drive.
I wouldn't even dream of having one with a black box fitted, because there's no point having a 400bhp car and driving like a granny.
Fortunately the OP is a school child who's making things up, and is never likely to have an M4, now, or in the future.
Very capable cars on the road, which is where they're designed for.
Also not just bought by the idle rich, they're a level of performance car that is reasonably affordable (apologies if you're among the idle rich)
I’ve a Range Rover Sport now.
Was ready to buy an E92 M3 when the first lockdown happened and after that it has all went a bit crazy. I got a Z4 Coupe just for a weekend toy as prices were more stable, though i see they've went up in price notably now.

We've an M140i as our main car as we need a 5 door and the Mrs doesnt like a car thats too big. Might look at an M4C or M2C later in the year but i'd replace our second car with one (its a 630i) and then still be able to run the M140i as our daily driver.
I definitely need to own a M car at some point
I bought one of the first M2s, but between ordering and taking delivery we had our first child. I went ahead, thinking it'd be manageable, but it wasn't, so I sold it at a loss, and bought the F80 M3. Within a year I decided again that even that wasn't big enough, but looking back, that was because it hadn't occurred to me that we could make do with a tiny folding pushchair, so we were trying to squeeze everything into the boot around a big one.
Years back I had an E46 M3 which, again, I loved, but it had more than a few issues while I owned it.
The Z4 is a lovely car. Better handling (in my opinion) than either of my M3s. My wife had the 2.8i convertible back when I had the first M3.1 -

Curious as to you logic about spending probably £500 on a £20 Protect X package when you're so keen to cut costs?2 -
As to your original question, services are about £800 a pop for a full service and £200 for an oil and filter change. Alternating every 15000 miles or 2 years.

We had an A45 before the M140i. It was manic and really too much of the thing for a daily driver. I really should have done an M2 / 3 / 4 by now. I prefer bigger engines to highly strung four pots.
I see the original M2s are still sky high in value. They could have been bought for £25K ish March 20 but they're still well up over £30K for a low miles, good spec'd one nigh on two years later. Felt like a lot of car for £25K at the time.

Have a good read of the paperwork first, because the warranty will cover very little especially if you start cheaping out on maintenance. It'll cover anything that BMW feels was due to manufacturing flaws and not abuse/wear and tear.
Also with BMW, they tend to be pretty good to you IF you've got a full BMW service history.

Is it not obvious? If you mean something entirely different then your comment is not obvious, sorry.
Or are you playing silly beggars with the subtle meaning of words and phrasing? 🙄0 -
Jenni_D said:So subtle interpretation of words and phrasing then, and not making it clear that's what they meant, preferring instead to engage in behaviour which makes them think themselves superior. OK 🙄
What point are you trying to make?0 -

Even if it were, there are always exclusions. My E36 My had both rear springs snap under warranty, and I had to cover 100% of the costs there as I couldn't prove that it was down to a manufacturing defect. Annoying, but understandable, as there were myriad speed bumps round our way that could well have been the issue.
Drive your car through a ford, change to second instead of fifth gear at high revs, take it on a track, or even just go in for a lot of hard braking and you may well end up footing the bill.
Again, this is academic, none of this is really happening; you've invented the whole situation, as shown by the slips that you've tripped yourself up on, so you'll not be paying anything, but an actual buyer of a car could well end up paying out for all sorts of things.2 -
Nobody's flagging up the OP has an A3? It might even be a S-line....Seems very familiar.1
