Thanks for the replies to my question of yesterday. Is it best to cancel the DD or leave in place? I gave BG all my details and meter reads a few days ago via the link mentioned above.0

The problem with leaving DD's in place is that the administrators have a habit of continuing to take payments resulting in a double payment and a mess to sort out. Personally I'd rather cancel the direct debit and avoid the potential for a mess up.
I did jump the gun a bit and I might have to pay a higher rate for a few days but if you cancel now you should avoid this. But, BE are sending out automated emails that still say you'll be on a higher rate but that should be an empty threat.
Its up to you.

I refuse to pay utility bills by DD for a very good reason. I have an unusual family situation which means I am often away from home for many months at a time but unpredictably. Taking my annual usage and dividing it by 12 and shoving onto a DD just doesn't work for me. Bristol Energy were great. With the help of a neighbour I was able to provide accurate meter readings once a month, received an accurate bill once a month and paid it online by debit card once a month. British Gas want me on a quarterly billing which doesn't suit me at all. I LEFT British Gas to avoid all of this nonsense because I was fed up with inaccurate estimated bills that assumed I was at the property 24x7 with the heating on full blast and providing readings did nothing to mitigate the situation because quarterly billing seems to veer between 2 months and 4 months depending on how they feel at the time. Bristol had a brilliant monthly tariff which suited me perfectly and no-one else seems to come even close to being able to replicate this. Why can't you pay monthly if you don't want to use a DD?0

I'd like to cancel the DD before the next payment comes out, in the hope that BG have at least started to set up the account by then, but that'll be 2 weeks time and I've heard nothing.
Anyone else had any more than the initial email from 24th Jan?

I cancelled my DD as I am in credit and didn’t want them taking more from me. It was due to be paid today and I didn’t see them having things sorted enough to not take more money from me for them to owe me more. Money is already tight and I didn’t want to be waiting for them to get things sorted to get my credit transferred over.

CANCEL the DD to TE before they help themselves to more of your money - when Neon Reef failed in November, BG admitted that they couldn't move the DD over so I had to set up a new DD for them.YBR said:I'd like to cancel the DD before the next payment comes out, in the hope that BG have at least started to set up the account by then, but that'll be 2 weeks time and I've heard nothing.

BE sent me its usual 1st of the month meter reading request yesterday. As they have a reading from me for the day they went bust and the 23rd Jan when BG took over you have to wonder why they sent this to an ex customer. I think they are doing what all the administrators have done and are simply letting the company run on auto pilot for a while to hoover up some direct debits and have enough cash on hand to pay the administrators fees. That money isn't going to be transferred to BG so everyone effectively ends up paying the administrators through the SoLR process. It stinks.

I think something similar happened last time I went through a SoLR process, in that case the ex-customers of Scottish Power got access to the website and accounts back well before those who had never been SP customers.Xbigman said:BE sent me its usual 1st of the month meter reading request yesterday. BG have fixed their 'mistake' on all of the recent SoLR tariffs it seems, just have to wait for the other shoe to drop now after 1st April...Accidental_Landlors said:BG has now changed the details on this tariff. Price guaranteed now says "not applicable" instead of "31 March 2023"😭
