It's stupid to say this, because people have been dying in conflict ever since, but it feels like something out of WW2.7

I'm so sorry to hear about your guest's ex-husband, Alchemilla.
Alchemilla said:It's stupid to say this, because people have been dying in conflict ever since, but it feels like something out of WW2.
Hell on earth for people trapped in it and those traumatised by it.2023: the year I get to buy a car7 -
It is awful. We are all more globally connected than ever which makes it feel more immediate. Inviting the UGs into your home personalises it further. War has no winnersAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

It is so wrong. UGs have returned to U for the funeral. There was a conversation about leaving the son with us, which with my maternal self I would have been happy to do but from a teachery probity self I would worry about.
He's no trouble but we're not foster carers and I would fear that he might end up in care if Mum got stuck elsewhere for whatever reason.
So we get a chance to breathe a little as there has been A LOT of running around. All the visas/shopping/biometrics/medical appointments. We will miss them though.
UG Mum is very young for her age. She decides things by asking people in her 'phone and without doing her own research. I've pointed out that when half the people say on thing and half say another, then half of them are wrong...and perhaps rely on herself a bit more. She lacks confidence which is astonishing given what she has achieved and she is really clever.
Anyway, onwards. Week 7 in new job notteaching. My old school (3 schools ago) is offering a 2k signing bonus for my subject. I don't feel even a flicker of interest full time but if I could compress my hours I would do one day a week with no strings.6 -
Decompressing a bit sounds right. I hope everything runs smoothly in U. It astonishes me how much ordinary life is starting to get going again in Kyiv and the countryside too: a few suburban trains, farmers working their crops as much as they can, re-building, repairing, it's astonishing.2023: the year I get to buy a car5

Such a sad situation. Very brave to go back for the funeral too. Is she definitely planning to return?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hi SH, Yes I think so. All their possessions are here. I hope so.6
