I think the BBC and others have been "listening in" on this conversation. Apparently (according to the news) there's at least £100 million in prizes that haven't been claimed.
Obviously this will mostly be the older ones that are pre computer age but will also be some where people have changed bank accounts and email addresses etc so the money might be sent out automatically but bounces right back. I would have thought there would be a point it all gets dumped back into the pot for distribution.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. As it is a gov thing they cannot just cancel the win. Those 1957 ones are unfortunately not mine. Back then you could just buy one, before then I had saving certs. My 1957 one & my 1959 one are happily showing on my account. When I say one I do mean £1. The first was to celebrate them starting & the later one was for that years birthday. I keep these for sentimental reasons only Although that is a nuisance if you want to cash some because you have to then do it by post. I must ask my sister if she still has hers.1

But someone will have inherited, my DS will get mine. It is even possible that some LAs may get back some of the care home fees. You could buy these for children so it is possible that the owner of a 1957 one is actually only 67 now & eventually someone clearing their house may come across them or maybe the reference no (can't remember the proper name) they were bought under. I used that number to link my new purchases to my old & they show on my account.Just noticed the only 67 comment, so really showing my age.2

Soooo tired … Had the first PC finances subcommittee last night. I wasn’t looking forward to it and it has conclusively proved to me that our new clerk, however good at the compliance side of the task, is no good at explaining budgets or forecasts … She’s gone away with quite a lot of homework! I have volunteered myself for checking the transactions of the PC bank account once per month … 🤷♀️🙄
I was a bit jangly after that and even though I managed to ground and settle myself quite well so I got to sleep okay, I woke at 4am with a head with like a washing machine on a spin cycle! 😢
Anyway, some small wins today:
- I’m obviously now enrolled in my new employer’s pension scheme as I have received and begun completion of two nomination of wishes forms. Mr KK will do very well out of these … eventually! 😂😉
- Collected, adjusted and used the vertical laptop storage system for the office, clearing more desk space for crafting 😊
@ renewal fee 😊👏
I’ve had a parcel turn up today of materials and tools (slight overstatement for a foam pad and spiky needles really! 😉😂) for my needle felting 😊 If I have the energy I might unpack that later, or I may save it as something to look forward to at the weekend. 😊

KKDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I’ve had a hard week this week. The visit to my parents is looming at me, work is getting slightly pressured due to things needing to be done within a timescale but several all at once, I’m sick of the never ending DIY on the paths that mean all the chores fall to me and I never get to see Mr KK when he’s not exhausted, my cucumbers are dying of mosaic virus (and they were doing so well this year …! 😢) and I keep waking up in the early hours with a head like a washing machine on spin …
Had a massive ‘down’ last night, pretty bad, super anxious and stressed. I asked Mr KK if we could avoid having the TV on for once and he did have it on, but muted, so that helped a lot. Slept a bit better last night - woke at 5am this morning so only an hour earlier than I’d have liked 🙄
Tried to focus and get myself organised in work today. Cleared my desk of extraneous documents, then spilled a lot of tea over both me and the desk, so cleaned it too! 😂🤷♀️ I have managed to look at the tasks I need to get done on the assessment coming up next week and it all looks doable (if a bit dull, some of it 😉). I also started pulling strings and arranging things for a huge, horrid admin task we have to do to satisfy Group. I came away from work feeling like I’d achieved a bit this week and that I will be able to deliver … That last comment is the root of a lot of it I think. Anxieties and destroyed self belief from the old job being triggered by building complexity in my current one, plus the visit to my parents …
Meanwhile … It’s the weekend! 😊
Mr KK has headed off with vast amounts of meat, beer, mates and charge packs to a vehicle show for the weekend so at least he’s having a rest … well his version of one! 😂😂😉
This afternoon I have:
- Read the bumf about the new employers pension - we start on a default 4.5% matched contribution, which can be increased to the maximum 6% twice a year (?? 🤔🤷♀️) in March and September, so have put a note in my diary for September 😊
- Completed and sent off the nomination forms for the pension and the life assurance
- Washed and dried all my clothes for the week, just need to put them away now.
- Posted the hard copy versions of the ‘resilient plants’ articles to my very serious gardening friend as a suprise for her (she doesn’t really ‘do’ the internet)
- Paid the big scary bill to the builders merchant for the slabs and immediately pulled planned funds (£1500) from savings to pay it off the CC straight away (it will throw things around too much at month end / payday time if I don’t).- Harvested some of my own spuds and roasted them with some of my own Rosemary for dinner this evening - truly ‘licous 😊❤️
- Harvested lots of sweetpea seeds ready for next year’s flowers 🌺
- Came across a kind of community hub place I’ve not seen before when posting the plant articles. They had a glossy brochure of local activities. 99% of it was day time based and not in my area but I did find reference to a garden society that meet within a 15 minute drive of here (Squee! 🤩🎉🥳🎊), so have sent an email to the contact name to ask when their meetings start again (it reads like they stop in the summer).
There are many, many things I’d like to get done this weekend, but just a few are priorities … 😊
