I have at least managed to get the antique mirror (basically the back off an old sideboard) wiped down and into the conservatory ready for collection by an FBMer tomorrow evening - if he turns up this time …..

Mirror has gone - was collected before I got home. £25 cash realised from this now tucked away in the safe to be put towards various upcoming house projects.

Mr KK saw the GP Triage nurse yesterday about the stomach pains and vomiting he has been experiencing periodically since Christmas. I wasn't that happy with her response (she diagnosed kidney stones and gave him ABs) so I started reading the NHS Direct website. This in turn led me to ringing 111, a discussion with a medical assessor and a pre-communicated trip to Gloucester A&E  last night, with him writhing in pain the whole way. Hubby got prodded, poked and had various tests done - sent home at midnight with elephant painkillers. He is currently waiting for a CT scan appointment tomorrow or Sunday and depending on the results probably ultrasound treatment or surgery Monday.

It is screwing up my budget somewhat - £9.10 for parking last night :o and extra fuel costs (its about an hour to get to the hospital from our house) so I am really quite grateful that I had such a low spend January ..... But after seeing how much pain Mr KK was in on Wednesday night when I got home from work, I am just relieved it isn't something worse - he is as hard as nails in a non-ostentatious way (bloke, Forester, Builder etc.  ;) ) and to see him suffering so much was really quite scary for me.

No YNAB'ing in the midst of all the above. I hope to catch up on this over the weekend.

Not sure how sense this post is making - I am a bit confuddled after all the A&E'ing and 4 hours sleep etc. ;)

    Thanks MB 😊

We are both shattered, but he seems to be okay today, apart from feeling like he has been run over by a truck. His CT is 12.30pm tomorrow so I am planning a packed lunch, books etc etc to while away the hours. We are both just grateful that he will get it done so quickly and then a treatment plan can be defined. Mr KK is very keen that they blast it rather than make him pass it! As he said, if what happened to him on Wednesday had happened to him when at work he could have been in real trouble.

I have clean sheets, and am clean from head to toe and have turned the alarm off! 😊 Hope to get a full night’s sleep tonight!

Thanks @SandyShores 😊 I’m just grateful that it’s nothing more ‘serious’ iykwim ….

Slept reasonably though had a LOT of work related dreams. Don’t feel quite as wobbly as yesterday.

It’s going to be a strange day today with Mr KKs CT scan at 12.30 and absolutely no idea how long the process will take. I am planning a packed lunch and lots of books etc - a bit like going on a long train journey …. 😂

Ploughing on through chores that need doing - second load is in the washing machine, water jug filter changed and jug scrubbed, kitchen bin emptied and relined, small QMee earning (£5.11) sent off to the mortgage. Just waiting on Mr Sainsbugs to turn up ….

All fingers are crossed for Mr KK's scan at 12.30. It is scary, isn't it. Over here it was DH's eye. He eventually mentioned he couldn't see out of the side of his eye after six hours at the laptop, editing his bike group magazine. I made him ring the optician's who saw him as an urgent, not emergency (new receptionist) and then they sorted out an emergency appointment at the eye clinic. Once you are in the system the NHS is wonderful, and his retina was reattached (twice) - the day after and then when it began to fail, again three weeks ago.

I hope the response at the hospital is as responsive for your husband. Kidney stones are excruciatingly painful, I am told. Our old weekday lodger (a consultant, working for my organisation) had them and he was hospitalised for several days. He was given strict instructions to keep himself hydrated in future. Apparently it is quite commonplace with chaps who do manual work and they start when they are perspiring and not keeping up their hydration.

I stayed in the car as Covid and flu are both rife round here, and only carers allowed in with patients. It was when I went to see Auntie while DH was waiting at the hospital to be seen, that I caught Covid, then passed it on to DH. Lots of books and a hot and cold drink in your car is a good plan for you. Good luck !

  • Hope the scan goes ahead ok today.  Think mine was about an hour from arriving, drinking the nasty fluid, the actual scan and then being sent away again.

Hope it all went well Kajikita, I expect you've had an exhausting day.  When anything like this happens I definitely am always grateful its nothing more serious and count my blessings.  Its exhausting though, so I hope everything went well.

    Thanks all,

it was a long day. We got there at about 11am and we’re seen quite quickly for the scan, but then when we were moved on to the review bit we were sat there for six hours. Mr KK was starting to get quite grumpy / angry so I had to speak nicely to the nurse on the front desk and he was seen quite quickly after that - I think because someone finally looked at his scan results and realised he had a 7mm stone!!! 😳 They wouldn’t let him come home as there is a fair possibility of a stone that big blocking the kidney altogether, causing it to die and leading to sepsis …..

They then rang through to Cheltenham for a bed in urology (fortunately they had one) and offered to take him by ambulance, but we said no thanks and I took him there. I left him on the ward, just a small one, and he should see the consultant tomorrow. They may operate tomorrow or Monday. I got home about 8pm.

I made a small joke when we were still in Gloucester, waiting to hear about the bed, that he needed a new nickname I.e. UXB (unexploded bomb). It was when he didn’t even smile wryly that I realised quite how scared he actually is. I am feeling really quite wobbly - trying to be logical and pragmatic about it, but scared for him too.

I am hoping I can get to visit him tomorrow.
