That's a productive list Newgirly, it sounds like it's a busy year for you.

we've only had a pet (a dog) for 2 years but they really do change a home don't they. I'd love another one the future, maybe when we are MF and home more

There are breed-specific rescues too NG, so you might find a rescue that is happy for you to keep your cat inside (because of the traffic), and they might have kittens too? I'd always try the rescues first. Kittens are lovely but hard work - I know I'd think twice about having them again!

You may also be a good home for an immune compromised cat who can’t go out.  We chose a rescue cat so that we would know what kind of character they would have.  It’s such a gamble with kittens - my mother had two from the same litter; one was the soppiest, kindest cat you could wish for; one was an evil tyrant who would sit in doorways waiting for unsuspecting children to walk in order to savage them.  My sister still has scars!

    Ahahahahahhaha aren't cats great?

Getting a young cat should be doable. Where are you looking? My ones came from gumtree, but a friend got hers from a forum on pets at home or something. She had a very good experience whereas mine was quite fraught because you had to get there in the first 30 seconds or the cats were sold.

I’m looking everywhere at the moment, rescues, breeders, gumtree etc. Will find the right one eventually I’m sure. I did look at fiv positive rescue ones but would likely possibly want them to be able to go out as well sometimes.
Ramouth I ‘now what you mean about character, that’s why I’m so keen on an oriental as I’ve grown up with them and they are more in your face, but perhaps it’s time for a change now. I feel like I will know when I see our perfect cat 😬

You will find your kitkat. Sometimes it just takes time. Took us a few months and then it was sheer luck

Don’t rule out non-orientals for in your face meowing! Our black and white boy is the noisiest, most opinionated cat I’ve ever met! He’s just plain rude with the shouting! 🤣

This might be useful in making sure you don’t buy from somewhere dodgy NG, if you’re not just looking at rescues: https://www.cats.org.uk/support-us/eight-weeks.

  • We got our two cats last summer from East Lancashire Cats. They are a rescue group and “advertise” on Facebook.
Will be too far for you to travel but they might advise of other rescue groups.

Thanks guys, I’ve seen that thanks Vix 🙂
Well today we have a new member of the family! Ds2’s fiancee found him online and he was bought by someone who only had him two weeks and he wasn’t happy with her other cat so she was rehoming him. He’s 11 weeks old tomorrow and a tabby, strangely he looked terrified when we picked him up, we put him in his new carrier and started purring straight away and fell asleep on the way home.

He’s just bowling round the house now like he has always lived here 😆 playing with all his new toys, sleeping in his new bed and he’s only been here since early evening! He is as always named after a character from Harry Potter as is tradition, this time it’s after the large grounds keeper at hogwarts, well his first name anyway 😬

will post a photo from my phone if I can.
