Ah you have all made me feel a little less guilty about booking it, thanks 😊
Daisy, I do need to think about where it all goes as it’s getting a bit closer now, dh definitely needs more money 🙂It’s been a stressy week so far, two people I know have been worrying about possible cancer, one is probably all clear just having a final check and the other recently found out they have it but it hasn’t spread thank goodness.I’m off to see a new specialist today to find out about what treatment I might need for the jumpy heart rate, I feel it’s going to be another op, if it is I’ll have to just get on with it, it can’t be as bad as the last one 😩 We are going by tube for the first time in ages, perfect weather for it 😂 it’s awkward to drive to and yesterdays rehab took double amount of time to get to by car as lots of roads were closed. No financial news to update on yet as it’s been so hectic, hopefully tomorrow and over the weekend I can spend some time looking at things and work out when we finish exactly and what needs paying for.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
Well it’s been a long day, I’ve been put on different medication to try for two months and then it’s back for another consultation and to have a monitor, if it hasn’t worked another procedure 😩he’s referred me via the nhs and thinks the wait time is 6 months or so- not so sure about that as I was told previously that the wait time for my heart op was six weeks and I got a first consultation appointment through four months later and that was pretty life threatening. To go private at this hospital would be £25k 😱 which is steep considering it’s day or overnight surgery, the open heart surgery was a nine day stay, a bit of googling suggests it’s more like £6-8k usually.I need to do some holiday insurance research as I’m now officially on a waitlist for treatment, and the balance on our October trip is due in three weeks, I’m not sure I’ll get cover now, problem is my parents are coming with us (after we all missed the last one because of me 🙄) and won’t go without us, so I may have messed up all our plans again!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3

I forgot I’d joined again to be honest 🙄 I’ll have to have a look Daisy! It’s the day I’ve been looking forward to all week, toast and shopping with best friend 😊 I’ve bought a top gift card this morning for £10 , getting £2.43 back as I want to get a few cotton vest tops from primarni. I’ve spent quite a while looking at the finances and talking to dh this week and I’m slightly revising the plan. I really wanted to get to March instead of April next year as an end date but that meant reducing the food budget by £100 pm, plus I want to join the gym once rehab has finished which I’ve no budget for. So the new plan which will still enable that is I’m stopping budgeting for the May 2025 holiday I was about to save for, the balance is due the end of January so I’ll put it on a credit card and pay for it in April when we are mf (a 0% one of course!) That allows money for the gym and the grocery budget, although ds1 has moved out we are still spending the same as I’m eating lots of nice fruit and berries etc, hopefully my strawberry plants will come good soon 😁
I’ve also got a surplus which is enough to take to York and pays for my parents and us to have a nice meal out to say thanks for all their support (and cash 😂) over the last few months. Maybe we will go next week even if I feel ok ish still, it will be one with a lot less walking than usual though, but I really miss being there it’s been way too long.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
Not very summery but one of my favourite photos of York, a rarely seen quiet shambles 😆

Gorgeous pic
hoping the new meds help and you get on your trip - think the girlie trip next year is a winner
I understand about making forward plans and having things to look forward to - plus you are a focused planner - just thinking maybe you should try and allow your body to heal at its own pace as it clearly wants to - rather than planning loads in 2024 as I can imagine it’s stressful thinking will I /wont I be healthy enough
Allow your body not your mind to set the pace for the next 6 months might be a calming thing to do - I am always also rushing round but when I am ill nothing happensDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

gorgeous atmospheric pic of the shambles. I've only been once in late November when it was snowing and freezing cold but im meeting my friend there in a week or so. 😩 just lost a huge post replying!Hi lady, I think you may be right. I phoned our insurance company and they won’t insure and have cancelled the policy, I found a specialist one who will insure now with me on a waiting list but won’t cover pre existing conditions which is no good for a cruise. After treatment or if I get better and come off the list they insure though which is good.As the balance is due in three weeks I’m not sure I want to risk not being able to go, we booked with my parents who won’t go without us and have already missed one cruise 😳 so I think we will probably miss it and lose the deposit of £105 per couple, I shall offer to pay for their deposit too although they probably wont accept! I think you are right and although I want to go and have something to look forward to the stress of that as well is going to spoil it. Will talk to my parents today and let them decide I think, we have messed them around enough this year.I think York is a good alternative as mums refused to go for ages as I was ill (she’s never that keen anyway 😆) and dads desperate to go, so maybe we will do that as I can take it easy as it’s a flat not a hotel room so we can park outside and I can veg out on the sofa if it gets tiring.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6

Hi NG - have you looked into specialist cruise travel insurance? It tends to be the more standard travel insurance cover that doesn't like cruises or medical conditions. There are plenty of older people (not saying you are btw!) who travel on cruises with a whole range of conditions - so there is definitely cover availableIf you search "cruise travel insurance with medical conditions" there are a number of options which come up. Be a shame to cancel unless you really have no other choice
