@jennystarpepper yes mine is hypermobility syndrome, also inherited. I have 3 different kinds of painkillers and have arthritis in a lot of my joints. Sadly I've passed it to my son who is much worse than I was at his age. My GP does my injections by the way. He's very helpful. I'm waiting on a rheumatologist consultant appointment as well as the knee surgeon.....8

@CRANKY40 and jennystarpepper I feel your pain, well almost. My dad who is 73 needs both knees replacing he is practically housebound now and in so much pain despite the massive amount of pain killers he is on including Morphine and Fentanyl patches but the NHS will not do either knee because of his high BMI.
Dad lost 5 stone about three years ago and managed to get his BMI down to 41, he looked so much better for it but the consultant wouldn't consider dad for a knee replacement as his BMI had to be below 40 for the referral, so once the lockdown came dad couldn't go out as much and has now gained the weight back and has almost seized up. If that referral had been done, I know dad's BMI would have been under 40 by the time of the appointment had come around.
I challenged the decision again last year quoting how the NICE guidelines state BMI should not be a barrier to a knee replacement but he couldn't get to actually see a consultant and was fobbed off via a physiotherapist who didn't even see dad face to face.
It really pains me to see dad like he is, he can barely get out of his chair to reach the toilet. He doesn't overeat but lack of exercise due to the pain means he is never going to lose weight. His life is now him falling asleep in the chair due to all the pain meds he is on. He's work his entire life and served in the army for 12 years.
On a plus point I had a lovely walk today with the dog but am struggling with food, as I am craving pizza!10 -
@DinkyStars - this is the viscious circle isn't it, can't walk, can't exercise, can't lose weight so can't have op to help one walk. Only suggestion is to annoy the NHS so much with calls that they finally cave.
I was fortunate with my knee op in that they were about to cancel 2 weeks before it was to happen as I was 10 pounds too heavy. I was devistated and was determined to lose the 10 before the next check in to confirm the cancellation. The rules then changed so I was no longer over their limit. But that was by going private (thanks to work) rather than NHS so maybe that is the next solution? Granted not cheap, one knee was about £15k (but covered, again thankfully, by a work scheme)

Oh and the MSK and physiotherapist.... I'm shaking my head, according to the ones i've seen Dr's don't know what they are doing.
Can you set up a Go Fund for your dad, I'd chuck a few £ his way? My knees are inherited from my father and he served 11 years and got not help.
Maybe it's as @CRANKY4@CRANKY40 said, start pestering / keep on at the Dr.
P.s I know many wonderful people work in health/ NHS and they have my thanks, but if we could go back to the days when we had a Dr who knew our history and we could sit and wait our turn....... to see a Dr rather than (as on my last call) 1hr 30 on hold to get an appointment, then to be told... 'none ring tomorrow' and hardly ever seeing the aame person twice.
Dentist update, dentist had a ... oh dear moment, they have 'bunged it up' 3 holes and I await big bills and more treatment. Nurse who I talked to on holiday was pleased with the box of Fiber 99 bars I gave her, told her a friendly voice when you have a big hole in your mouth on holiday helps.
Goodness, never knew toothache had this affect. 😂😂😂😂
On a weight loss front, Aldi green grapes from Namibia are big juicy and I recommend all try them.
