Aim: Mortgage Free / Time For Me

Today’s quote:
“Sometimes life will kick you around, but sooner or later you realise you are not just a survivor. You’re a warrior and you’re stronger than anything life throws your way”
Mortgage / household savings:
- My monthly early retirement pension money came into our bank account today, so thats another £313.41 saved towards our kitchen mortgage 👏👏👏. Some people would think i was daft to take my pension at 55, but this is the money that will help to pay our mortgages off each month as a lot of our disposable income goes to finance our dd2 at university.
- I am cooking spag bog and salad for tea tonight. The spag bog is one i made in bulk which has loads of my homegrown veg in it to pad it out…..its defrosting as i write. I love ‘easy’ dinner days.
- It’s been a lovely sunny day here and some of my washing was nearly dry when i brought it in from my washing line, so its airing now to finish off……this means i haven’t had to use the tumble dryer again, so that has saved a little bit of money.
Wellbeing :
- After a dreadful day yesterday with the chocolate, i have done better today ( thank goodness)…… i’ve got to keep going.
- Had a lovely evening round my dd2’s house last night. She cooked a really nice meal and then we all played ‘articulate’. I seem to be having some lovely times lately….. were they always there and i just didn’t notice them due to my depression, or am i enjoying things more as I’m starting to feel a bit better in myself?….I’m really not sure. But one thing i know, is i like it.
- Maybe my counsellor was right…… going ‘no contact’ with toxic family members has finally giving me the chance to start to heal and find myself. Dare i think that i have a happy future ahead of me?
Anyway that’s it for today ❤️❤️❤️

I took my main pension at 55 too PM. It was the right financial decision for us.
Of course you have a happy future ahead of you because that is what you are choosing.

Today’s quote:
“Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without”
I forgot about this quote until this morning when it popped into my head. I used to have this quote stuck to the inside of my pantry door as a reminder to save money when my dd’s were little. It’s definitely time to remind myself of this if we want to get our kitchen mortgage paid off by December ( and then start to pay off our main mortgage early too).
Mortgage / household savings:
- Each morning i have been going round turning the radiators off to save a bit of money on the heating bill. My husband is still working from home (together with dd1 who is back from university until the end of this month) and so I have to leave the heating on. I am trying not to heat the whole house all day and just heat the rooms we need.
- Today in my fridge i found a few carrots that were going over so i peeled and chopped them into large batons and i froze them on a tray so they don’t stick together. When they are frozen i will put them into a bag and they can be used to roast straight from the freezer (they will be fine if i don’t part-boil them first).
- The bananas in my fruit bowl were also going over so i chopped these up and placed the slices on a tray and froze these too. Again i will bag them up when they are frozen. I use frozen bananas in my ‘yoghurt porridge’ in the morning. I take them out and defrost them overnight with the rest of my frozen fruit and they are fine providing i make sure they are covered with my yogurt or porridge oats overnight in the fridge while they defrost, so the air doesn’t turn them black. They don’t stay whole after being frozen, but mixed in they sweeten my porridge and make it taste lovely.
- Rummaging around my freezer i found some pork chops which we will be having for tea. I have half a swede in my fridge to use up and i kept back some of the carrots from above to roast. I have homegrown potatoes from my ‘store’ and some homegrown peas and beans to serve with it…..a lovely cheap meal.
- Note to self……. I need to sort my freezers out to see what else is in there that i don’t know about.
Wellbeing:
- I’m back on track with my healthy eating diet after my ‘blip’ the other day (thank goodness).
- I didn’t go to my allotment today as it was foggy this morning and there was a really hard frost….so instead i did my 30 minutes of brisk walking before breakfast…..it certainly woke / warmed me up.
- This afternoon i am starting to sort out my allotment plan. This will take me all afternoon as i go ridiculously overboard, drawing planting plans, seed sowing diaries etc…..but i do love the preparation. The last couple of years i had to really push myself to do this, but today i am so looking forward to it.
So that’s it for today.

I’m not going to though, like i would have in the past!…..it’s cold and horrible but im going to force myself to go to allotment in a minute as i think it will do me good ( i’ve got to fix my gate post so i can do this in the frost). I dont want to be the person i was before and ive got to keep telling myself that only i can change it3 -
You can do this! Some fresh air and hard labour is bound to help clear your head, so the allotment sounds like a great plan xMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!2 -
You're the author of your own life PM - and you're writing yourself a great script. Well done for persevering.
