he thinks I should just go the doctors and go on HRT. I really dont want to go down this route and have been doing a lot of on-line research.    I even got Michael Moselys book on Sleep from the library. An interesting read!!
@Kantankrus_Mare i didnt want to go on HRT either so im hoping my new health kick will help me sleep better….though i was back to normal with a dreadful nights sleep last night, im hoping tonight will be better.  It was 2017 when i had my last period and i am still having hot sweats day and night (sorry if i embarrass anyone reading this by talking about it).
i’ll have a look for the book you mentioned, thank you XXX

Dont ever apologise for talking about menopause!! Until I entered this phase of life, I knew very little about it as the generations before ours just didnt talk about it. Every womans experience is different and arming yourself with info can only help. Im a tad jealous you have had no periods for a few years. I had my last one 3 months ago and hoping Ive finally had last one. I missed 5 months last year and then started again for another  3 months. Considering the average age of menopause is 51 I was quite concerned that I was still having them at 55. :o

  • I second what @Kantankrus_Mare said 😁  I started having symptoms at 45 and was shocked and horrified when I found out the cause as I'd always believed menopause started at around 55.  I was lucky enough to win a competition to attend a menopause conference run by these guys.  A friend and I attended and we learned so much.  They have lots of free resources on-line too.

I talk freely about menopause with the Younger Fortunates.  I'm not sure they find it entirely comfortable but we need to break down these barriers.

You are right @Kantankrus_Mare i shouldn’t apologise, I knew nothing about brain fog, hot sweats, low moods until i started to go through the menopause.  Also i should imagine the later you go through it, the better as you still have hormones that help protect you from heart disease etc.

Yes Fortune_Smiles, i totally agree.  I keep telling my daughters, hoping one day they will remember.  When i was pregnant ( many moons ago), i wrote a pregnancy diary for each of them so one day when they are pregnant they can each read about how i felt carrying them week by week over the nine months ( as my mum said she could never remember)…….perhaps i should write down my experience with menopause, just in case i forget or end up with dementia lol.
  •  Today’s quote:

“A few bad meals (or a few bad days) does not ruin a healthy diet…… but GIVING UP DOES “

Yes you have guessed it…. The chocolates on our kitchen work surface got the better of me today and i ended up with indigestion again!

    Mortgage / household savings:

Not a lot to report today except i was at my allotment this morning and i needed some wood to edge a path.  The local fox keeps digging around every night and pushes the wood chip over my paths and i end up having to sweep up every time i go to my plot …. I’m hoping that the edging will stop this.  Now my old self would have nipped to B&Q and brought some new wood but instead i went searching round my plot and found some old decking and wood from the allotment plot i gave up last year.  It needs a paint now in the spring so it is all the same colour.  It’s not perfect but it is fine for my allotment and i’m really pleased with it.

    Wellbeing:

Well as i said at the beginning of todays diary, i fell off the wagon and ate loads of chocolates that were sitting staring at me on the work surface this lunchtime.  I was so annoyed with myself.  My old self would have just given up at this stage and carried on eating crap all afternoon, but i’m determined to no longer be that person that gives up….I AM going to lose weight, for good this time.

After eating the chocolates i did my 30 minutes of brisk walking (dragging the dog along lol) and when i came home i put some Gloria Estefan music on my ‘alexia’ and had a dance around my kitchen.  No one was about and i found myself really enjoying it  ( the dog was looking at me like i’d gone mad though lol) ….after a while i checked my ‘active 10’ app and found i had then done a total of 50 minutes of brisk walking, so i carried on until i did 60 minutes in total…..very proud of myself!  Who would have thought dancing was the equivalent of brisk walking….but so much more enjoyable.

So tonight i’m going to count my blessings and remind myself that tomorrow is a fresh new day and I WILL succeed.

  • It's a slip up PM - it's not how far you fall, it's how you get back up 😘

Allotment looks fabulous... and huge!  Our veg patch is about half the size and I struggle to keep on top of it.  I've just checked my calculator and it says that an hour of general gardening burns 205 calories and digging/vigorous effort 465 😲  I think that might help me to get out there more 😆
