Thank you both so much
I began my day with a swim and a steam and a walk down the hill and then up. I've had a protein and veggie breakfast and I feel good. I've started a high dose wild fish oil. I have 2 months supply. It is expensive but last time I did this I had much less inflammation although it took a month or so to make a difference. Lucky I already have it as my frugal budget would not allow it now.
I found a great surveyor just from ringing around yesterday. He pointed out the position of a window looks like it might have a flying freehold. I have contacted the EA to seek clarification from the vendor. Depending on what comes back I might post on the house buying thread. I am not worried at this stage. It is a very old house so not uncommon but I need to know what it might mean for me.
The good surveyor is cheaper, so another £100 saving as I will be using him.
I can't stop my swimming membership until September, so I plan using it as much as possible until then...
Today's saving is doing my own brows £6 saving
I am having a NSD 2/8
Todays horrible BIG OLD FROG is applying to cash in an old policy. Hate this sort of admin but need the money for the house so I don't have a choice.
Using up food already in the house, so today will be a cauliflower, sweet potato and lentil curry with red rice. I am going to make a veggie stock with leftover bits and bobs. There is half a bag of flaked almonds so will toast those to go on top. There is a jar of pickles and some mango chutney so all good

A quick update...It is just as well I tackled the old policy frog. It takes 6-8 weeks for 'the journey' They are sending out an options package, then a 40 minute telephone call, then a second option package, then another call. Oh, and the packages take 20 days to prepare and send. Ages for the phone to be answered tooIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. And house obstacle number one presents itself....Lovely surveyor highlighted a flying or creeping freehold. Nothing overhangs, it is to do with the way the whole little row of a terraced cottages are divided up. It hasn't put me off but there are issues implicit with flying freeholds and the laws are ancient. Insurers don't like them for building insurance claims either. Not all lenders are happy with them especially if that element exceeds 25%. I don't want to have issues if I want to resell
I need to find out what percentage might be flying or creeping freehold. I suspect minimal. If less than 10% it is much less of an issue from what I have read.
I will speak to the surveyor today to get an estimate of the percentage of flying/creeping freehold
I will also obtain the title plans of the the house and next door to see if there are any restrictive covenants.
It is only a few days of extreme frugality and already feeling tired of having no money.
I haven't found any savings for today yet.
Have a good day everyone

we had that in our last house - the surveyor made a song and dance of it when we bought, and our buyers surveyors made a deal of it when we sold - but neither provided any sort of block and it was never a problem with insurance etc although I might not have thought to mention it. so be a bit careful (esp if significant) but in my view its a molehill not a mountain
wrt savings - if you are saving unsustainably you will just make yourself miserable. my success was more about cutting down on stuff not stamping it out. The big picture is you are buying a house pretty much out of your own resources so although cash flow may be uncomfortable/worrying you are in a really good placeI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

How annoying about the huge delay to access your own money! Well done on tackling that frog.
Hope the freehold issue is not a big deal."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2 -
Sorry to hear about the flying freehold hope it is something not too serious and can be overcome.
