Quick question ,do I count every item in the charity bag separately or just the whole bag the bags are all different sizes as I use whatever I’ve got ,rarely a big black bag ? thanks
Can I attempt this year again please? I started off so well last year then the dreaded mental health kicked in. I'm still struggling to drag myself off the sofa each day but decided if I can just declutter 6 items a day (about 2022 for the year, we are all hoarders so shouldn'tbe hard) it'll start making a difference. I'm planning on setting a timer each day for 30 minutes and see how far I get and if I've got rid of the 6 items I won't feel so bad if I don't finish the time.
I have just done 30 minutes in the girls room with D2 as DH took down her bunk the other day ready for her new bed and everything that was under it is now in the middle of the room.
So a little early but day 1- 1-7 chocolate orange boxes!-Recycled(Waiting for D2 autism assessment and I know there is a LOT more of these up there. 8 bedding packaging- recycled 9 advent calendar box-recycled 10 school bag with more holes than a sieve-binned 11 odd slipper with the teddy face chewed off (thanks pup)- binned 12 bag of rubbish, sweet wrappers etc- binned
I will have a read through the thread tonight once the teens all go to bed.

@Suffolksue- it's entirely up to you how you want to count it. Last year I aimed to do the 2021 things plus 20 bags of clothes as we have a massive amount. This year I might count individually to make reaching my target easier.

I have put a bag in my car boot ready for items to go in as I identify them for the charity shop. Once it is full, I will drop it off and start a new one. Also a box for items that will need to go to the tip for recycling. Already in the latter is a torch that no longer works even when I tried new batteries. I have tidied my larger utensils drawer in kitchen and 4 items are going from there. Also a bird feeder that is not very popular, I have very particular garden birds :-). Guineapigsqueaks x
I'm going to hang on the side of the train for half decluttering. Most of the stuff is gone now but there's still bits and pieces I should go through to really make everything usable, reachable and not hiding in the depths of cupboards. All this is in readiness for potential home extension and re-jigging next year which will hopefully mean less stress putting stuff into storage and therefore only having what we need and desire and can't live without in there, so we're not decluttering it as it comes back out...I'll be spending some time in the kitchen to start with when the gong bongs for New Years Day +1...
Hi, can I please join, I’ve been gathering up courage for a while to start properly, I don’t think I own much but then I feel overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I do own. It makes me feel panicky when things get messy over Christmas so I’m ready to declutter. New Years Day can’t come quick enough. I feel guilty about taking things to the charity shop so will try them on eday first and realist a few times. 💷

Any free seats left on the train? I really want to get on with decluttering my flat. I've never been great at keeping it clutter free, but various circumstances over the past few years have made things worse. I am self-employed and work from home, both as a tutor and a jewellery maker, so I have a lot of work stuff, scattered everywhere. My ultimate goal is to clear my spare room so I can actually use my jewellery desk in there and do my online tuition in there too. That way I can shut work away rather than being constantly surrounded by it. I'm struggling to get much done as I have long covid which saps my energy quite often, but I know the cluttered environment is really not helping at all. I just need to find some motivation when I do have the energy!! As much as I'd love to list every item I get rid of I know I won't do it, so I think I'm going to aim for 2 bags or boxes (of any size) of stuff out each week. That gives me a bit of flexibility if I'm feeling ropey, but 104 boxes/bags whatever size will make a huge impact! Then I might even be able to consider tackling the garage.... Enjoying reading what everyone else is up to so far 🙂

Judge each day not by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds which you sow.
Welcome aboard StickyTheStickInsect 👋 Your seat is reserved with a note confirming your 2 targets for 2022 🙂 You might be recycling some of your 2021 good intentions but at least you managed to complete ONE 👏. I didn’t even manage one 😔 However with all you lovely people boosting my confidence I will try harder in 2022 😉 Now I just have to locate my Good Intentions & update them 🤔 I did smile at the thought of you giving your husband “additional encouragement” 😄 all sorts of things came to mind nudge, nudge, 😉😉🤣 Here’s hoping that you don’t frighten your husband 🤞
Thank you Mrs SD 😊
I’ve actually edited my post and added the good intention I’d forgotten about, clearing the loft we’ve made a start but have a long way to go !
It would seem that nothing so exciting maybe required, as today I may have accidentally chanced upon the best “additional encouragement”. I mentioned I’d posted in the group for the year and said since we hadn’t managed to get things done last year, maybe if stuff hadn’t got moving by the middle of this year, we could “get someone in to sort some decorating and DIY bits out”. Apparently, this is some kind of slight on his manly DIY pride and we’ve already had talk of a visit to B&Q 🤣 if only I’d known !!!!! I shall keep you updated with developments !
Keep safe everyone xxx

Just realised after reading through that I'm way ahead of the train leaving but didn't seem any point putting them onto 2021 thread. I shall pack them in my suitcase until Saturday 😂

In July I started a micro side hustle reselling business - so with the items from that and general clutter things are getting a bit out of hand. I'm also doing a 'no buy' Jan for both the business (well unless packaging materials are needed) etc, and myself so that should get everything going in the right direction.
I'll start counting from 01 Jan 22. Today, three eBay/etsy sales posted off (one personal, 2 business) so a few things and the associated packaging gone.
I'm going to set a target of 730 (2 items per day).
