Hi Mrs SD and friends
I was on this thread a few years ago and would like to rejoin please
This time last year my house was ultra tidy as it was up for sale (the garage was filled to the brim though, oops). I decided for various reasons to take it off the market and the pressure to be tidy was instantly removed! So now my once tidy and tranquil bedroom is a messy dumping ground. That is my main target - to reclaim my bedroom as a tidy and relaxing space. I want to rearrange the furniture but to do that i need to get rid of a dressing table - i have never used it as a dressing table but i do use the surface to display a few things and i use the drawers.
I have a spare bedroom now DD1 has moved into her own home so i would like to make that a nice spare room with a desk so i can WfH in there. I would like to sell my house in the next few years so the sooner i start /restart decluttering the better! I also need to tackle the garage (& the shed & the loft). As i work FT and have a couple of PT jobs i am going to set realistic targets for this year as below:
- list for sale dressing table; stool and full length mirror
- put away clothes every night
- leave kitchen in a tidy state every night
- list items on Bay of E (currently ironed and hanging on front of wardrobes ready for listing (if not sold then donate)
- rearrange my bedroom
- sell some books on zi££it or at nearby bookshop
- tackle the spare room so it looks like a room not a dumping ground
I like the Nigella quote ! Totally relate to that

I would love to join please!
This year I've really got off to a good start with decluttering and want to continue in 2022 as I'm sure there is still plenty of stuff we are hanging on to but don't need.
I'm not sure what kind of a goal to set. I think 2022 items might be a tough target but may be doable - however I think realistically aiming for decluttering 3 items per day (total of 1095 items) is more achievable so I'm going to start with that and see how I get on.
Household plans for 2022
One of the major things on our list is a complete refit of our main bathroom including suite, tiles and flooring. We are just awaiting a quote for this so once we have that we will know what we're aiming for.
Another big thing on our list is a new front door. Again we need to get some quotes for this and I'm not sure if we can afford to do the bathroom and this all in one year but it would be great if we could.
Smaller projects include - repainting hallway, stairwells and all woodwork. Decorating our sons bedroom. Overhaul of the area outside our house (turning soiled area into one with stones) and lastly haviing a really good clear out of our garage.11 -
Please may I join in? I think I "belonged" a long time back but gave up under the pressure of 7-8 people living in a house that's not that much bigger than average. Lots of rooms, but none of them big... Now we're down to 5 (plus the odd boyfriend and/or passing friends & relatives at weekends) but the clutter's still here... My little-but-moderately-successful business doesn't help, with "vintage" treasures constantly passing through our home; my aim this year is to dispose quickly of excess stock - the penalty of buying in job-lots, there are always bits that won't "work" for me, and during the pandemic those have backed-up to silly levels - and confine the rest to a clearly defined area, away from our own living space.
At the moment our garage is full to the rafters of things that will be going off with one offspring or another (by their own request!) once they have their own space; that's not too far away now, as one should be completing on a rather-large home of their own within the month. There will also be genuine junk in there but I can't get at it to remove it! And my "sewing room" (aka the spare bedroom) is unspeakable; I can't actually get at my own supplies in order to make anything, as both DDs have offloaded stuff they can't quite bear to part with (yet) into there. I do feel rather overwhelmed, but I know I've just got to start somewhere, and that each little success will bring the next one closer. Now is the time to get aboard it as the next three months will be relatively quiet, business-wise; hoping you will all hold me to it and keep me up to the mark until I can see daylight again!Angie - GC Jun 25: £309.06/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)14 -
Itching and eager to get that train moving... I've gone early with a gentle journey to the departure point by disposing of 5 odd socks and 2 ripped pairs. Plus a broken ornament that we've been threatening to try and glue for 3 months, has gone in the bin.
These are mere warm ups for next year and won't count towards my targetMFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......11 -
May I join for 2022 please?
Am a long time lurker but rarely post. Usually in the run up to Christmas I throw (sometimes literally) all clutter into the bedrooms and keep the doors firmly shut when visitors are here. This year my DDIL announced she needed to commandeer a bedroom for my DGD to have her nap. I was mortified! She had to use my bedroom as it was the only one with enough floor space to put a cot. I was so embarrassed and never want that to happen again!
Basically I want the house to be so that anyone can walk in any room and I won't be embarrassed! Have all the bedrooms, the dining room, garage and shed to clear out, so will go for decluttering 2022 items in 2022. Might not be achievable but even I manage it, I think it will barely scratch the surface! But then again, anything is better than nothing.
Thanks

The 2022 Electric Decluttering Train (2022 EDT) is now ready for boarding 🥳 The train is fully charged, the buffets are all fully stocked, there are plenty of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages 😉 & the ‘facilities’ are pristine 🙂
So hop aboard as we trundle around stopping at all stations to pick up our 2022 ‘family’ of declutterers 😉
Hope the 2022 EDT is warm enough bit_by_bit 🙂
Hop aboard Deni_debt-free_dreamer 👋 we have plenty of room 🙂 Reading your post it is obvious that you are a successful declutterer - you have already done it once 👏 Sounds like work keeps you very busy so I can understand why the clutter has managed to creep back in 😔 but you have set yourself a realistic set of goals & priorities, so your journey restarts here 🙂 Welcome back 👋
Welcome aboard Fairy_Shazza 👋 Pleased that you have found us & hopefully we can help you continue what sounds like an excellent start to your decluttering campaign 🤞I think decluttering is like losing weight or getting fit - you need like minded people to share your successes & non-successes 🙂 We can keep each other going especially as there are so many hints, tips & lots of encouragement & support available here 👏 Great work on specifying your goals for the year 👏
Ah, thriftwizard - you always belong (insert sinister giggle - only 🙃 ) Lovely to see you have found your way back to our Decluttering Family 👋 Thank you for sharing your life with us 👏 Reading between the lines I take it that no-one assisted in your efforts to declutter & keep things tidy 😔 Hopefully this time around & with fewer people sharing your home you can get them all on board 🤞 Gentle persuasion, threats or bribery are some of the tools in your arsenal 😉😉 First suggestion I offer to get you in the mood is the black bin bag sweep, followed by the recycling bag sweep around the house to dispose of the obvious clutter - a quick win. Next suggestion is to create a ‘haven’ could be a whole room or a corner of a room (bedroom possibly) where you can sit down with a cuppa & book/magazine & not think about decluttering 🙂 So welcome aboard The EDT 👋 & here is to a successful decluttering journey 🙂
Perfect time to warm up shangaijimmy 👏
Absolutely you can join us Dithering_Dormouse - welcome aboard 👋 Well done on coming out of lurkdom & finding us 👏 The first step is the hardest and you have taken it 😉 The reasons for starting & continuing the Decluttering journey are many & varied but your reason is one I particularly empathise with 😔 I have noted your target which I know you will reach 🙂 First suggestion I offer to get you in the mood is the black bin bag sweep, followed by the recycling bag sweep around the house to dispose of the obvious clutter - a quick win. Next suggestion is to create a ‘haven’ could be a whole room or a corner of a room (bedroom possibly) where you can sit down with a cuppa & book/magazine & not think about decluttering 🙂 So welcome aboard The EDT 👋 Might I make another suggestion - decide what you will count 🙂 Every day I count kitchen recycling & kitchen detritus as separate items so that is 2 every day towards my total - keeps me motivated 😉 So again welcome aboard 👋
Black_Saturn well done for remembering that every item out is a win 👏 After all it took a long time to get cluttered so decluttering will be a marathon & not a sprint 😉 Well done on an excellent start 👏Be Kind. May I join the decluttering train this year please?
I fell off the 2020 train in the September but I've been lurking since. In 2021 I focused on completing the 1p Challenge.
This year my aim is to get rid of 2022 things. To do this I've made monthly sheets to tick off each item (plus a few extra to make the table look even) and colour coded my pens to see what the problem areas are.
Not sure if this strategy will work but it's worth a go I guess
The updates from everyone are inspiring and your daily food selections Mrs SD are often mirrored in what my household eats.
Looking forward to hearing about everyone's decluttering adventures. Take care xxx13
