Welcome aboard hopefuldebtfree 👋 Don’t worry about 2021 - that was your practice & setting new good habits 🙂 No rules here - just good intentions, goals, mantras, helpful hints & positive reinforcement to help us along with decluttering as many physical items as we are comfortable with & hopefully at the same time decluttering mental stress & cutter. Btw, you didn’t ramble at all - you set out & clarified your specific goals 👏 Only 4 more days until we start reporting our methods & successes 🥳
Lovely to see you nannywindow 👋 Your seat aboard the Electric Decluttering Train is already reserved 😉 Sounds like you had a lovely family Christmas & are invigorated for the year ahead 🙂 Unfortunately Christmas seems to be synonymous with huge amounts of cardboard 😬 We are lucky where we are - can have a huge recycling bin & our chaps take away flattened (dry) cardboard boxes even if not in a bin 👏Welcome aboard Fizz2015 - nice to see you 👋 Your seat is reserved 🙂 Well done on starting your decluttering in 2021 & getting new habits in place 👏 Looking forward to reading your posts 🙂
You definitely have a reservation aboard the Decluttering Train vulpix 👋🙂 Just to confirm social distancing is in place, plenty of hand gel, a large supply of face masks, windows will be opened regularly & there is a buffet car in each carriage 😉 We aim to stay safe whilst we are decluttering 🙂 It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas 🥳 and hopefully 2022 will see more regular family visits 🙂 A busy year for you - keeping clutter out, replacing, reusing & dealing with frogs but I know how capable you are & how successful you will be 👏
Welcome out of lurkdom akh43 👋 Lovely to see you & your seat is reserved 🙂 I think one of the challenges many of us have is keeping things for Justin as we are trying to juggle our need to declutter against being wasteful & doing our bit to help the planet. Please join us as we get ready for a successful 2022 🙂
The Electric Decluttering Train will start collecting everyone from Thursday - it will give us time for a chat & a cuppa or tipple 😉 + a few savoury/sweet snacks to fortify us for the 2022 Decluttering Campaign.Be Kind. Hello, please can I join your thread this year? I was reading along last year and it really helped with my motivation so I’d like to be a bit more involved this year. I did declutter a lot of stuff this year and it is noticeable but we still seem to have cluttered surfaces etc, I think a lot of the problem is the drawers and cupboards aren’t organised. As well as decluttering I want to start going through every drawer and cupboard and organise it so everything has a home. I believe if every cupboard is organised and everywhere has a home then it really shouldn’t be too difficult to maintain a tidy home – famous last words! My Tupperware cupboard used to be horrendous and it would all fall out every time I opened the door, but I cleared out excess tubs and organised the whole cupboard and it has stayed tidy ever since as everything has it’s place, I just need to apply this to every other cupboard in the house! Over the past year I have found Olio, Freecycle and Facebook really useful for getting rid of stuff, especially stuff you can’t give to a charity shop but you feel someone else might find it handy.
As well as decluttering I’d like to start decorating, we moved into a new build five years ago so we are lucky that we didn’t need to do much but we have been a bit slack, there are barely any pictures on the walls and it all looks a bit characterless with plain white walls everywhere, I need to work at making it more homely.
I saw a quote from Nigella Lawson a few years ago that totally applied to me – ‘I hate mess but I can’t be tidy.’ This is me all over so I really want to work at the being tidy part! Another quote that has worked for me is ‘don’t put down put away’, a lot of my clutter comes from me putting something down thinking I’ll deal with it later and then I never do!
Anyway apologies I didn’t mean to do such a long post and I look forward to joining in with this year’s decluttering mission.

Hi PK29,I think we already know each other from another thread.
akh43 were we separated at birth? Freebees and wastefulness, I don't think we are alone with those on here either. I have finally learned by moving to a tiny house that I can't save other peoples stuff too. I can only be responsible for my tiny contribution to consuming less.
Mrs SD, I LOVE the idea of a virtual buffet car on the train. Exactly what I need in 2021.
Almost home alone today. Mr V at work, DD2 will be setting off for her home soon. I packed all my Christmas guests off with plastic boxes of food. Hurrah, kills 2 birds with 1 stone. No food waste and redistribution of plastic boxes! We all brought items for our all day buffet and it was a great success. We agreed to almost all of us to meet again next week as we always celebrate my Mum's Birthday on New Years day. (actual Birthday 6th January) The only food left to use up is some sherry trifle and a little of DD1's vegan chocolate orange cheesecake. It's a tough job etc ... As I have rehomed a lot of the party ware I used to have it was a struggle to find bowls and things to put on the table. but it was ok, everyone survived eating hummus from its container!

I'd love to get involved this coming year. I started in 2020 aiming for something to leave the house everyday and made some massive strides until the world stopped turning! Once the charity shops and recycling centres shut it became a bit more difficult. Then they opened and the queues were immense or the charity shops overflowing...and I lost impetus.
So my target is to remove 365 items next year.
The visible clutter really upsets me. Mrs SJ couldn't care less and definitely has some hoarding tendencies from her parents! So declutter will be of my stuff and the kids stuff. You never know Mrs SJ may join in, but I really doubt it. Horizontal surfaces are the enemy of this house!
Frogs to tackle are the garage...this will be a major area to declutter. And to decorate our bedroom (this may be my only hope of Mrs SJ getting rid of some of her carp), the kitchen and the en suite!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......9 -
Thought this might help some of us20

Afternoon all, please can I have my seat again this year? In 21 I counted 1000 items out then continued at a slower rate without counting. I'd like a target again of 1000. Should be doable without too much trouble. I have been awol for a few months but caught up on a few threads yesterday so am all up to date even if I haven't commented for a while.
Thank you Mrs sd for keeping us going

I know I am early, but I have ousted some hard to recycle items I've been storing up. Disposable face masks (mostly use reusable ones, so not many) can be recycled at Wilkos. Tablet blister packs at Superdrug. Printer ink cartridges and soft plastics including crisp packets at Tesco. Cosmetics packaging at The Bodyshop. So, a little walk around town dropping it all off. I avoided looking at the sales, came back only with a pack of blank cards/envelopes which I will use to reuse this year's Christmas cards (I don't need to make any more gift tags, so going to try this instead). I have also sorted through all the Christmas wrap, bags, ribbons I saved from landfill on Christmas Day and put away for reuse. A few past their best bits have been binned.

Marpau, reading your list I see throwing odd earrings are on it. The other day I found an odd earring in a handbag, I tend to take them off when I am out if they irritate me. I knew I have the other one in a safe place for the broken jewellery collection for the Alzheimer's society, Today I have looked for the other one, can I find it? haha nope. I have had a good sort of my bedside drawers though and found other stuff to oust. It will turn up...eventually.
