Afternoon all. Hope your mum is ok @oceanspirit and back home soon.
Thank you for running this thread and next year's one @Mrs_Salad_Dodger - as @Vulpix said, you really do an excellent job of cheerleading and know exactly what to say to everyone to encourage them along. And in doing so, you've created a really safe and calm part of the internet over here where it doesn't matter how frequently or infrequently you visit, you can just pull up a chair, have a cuppa and join in where you left of.
I've been thinking about my goals in general for next year and will definitely be back on the EDT again - my word for next year is "Simplify" and that means even more stuff will be leaving this house (and hopefully not replaced by other stuff!) Haven't thought of a target yet but will do over the week.
I finally made it to the dump on Saturday so all the huge cardboard boxes have left the house and the boot of my car. Also decluttered a bunch of hair at the hairdresser's; I'm always amazed that I have anything left on my head when I see how much they chop off. Washing is up to date now but the house needs a tidy and good clean as I've been kind of phoning it in over the last few weeks. Have a list and I will stick to it. This evening its the living room which needs a good dusting and polish as well as sorting out the pile of Christmas food bits in the corner. Oh and I need to post Christmas and Hannukah cards this evening and pick up some books from the library. Better get cracking with the final work bits I need to do and then head out!
Hope you're all having a good day and staying warm.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 201711 -

Well my word at the moment would be disappointed. Completion on the sale of mum's bungalow should have been today but it didn't happen. Something has happened to the buyers chain. Solicitor was hoping it could still go through tomorrow but her secretary came in with an email and we're now looking at January 10th. I'm just so tired, the buyer's son has had me running around, getting the boiler serviced (and now a couple of parts being replaced) and answering all manner of stupid questions. I spent all of yesterday and today tracking down receipts and bringing the accounts up to date, finding all the keys, writing info on the bins, garden, which key did what, saying goodbye to all the nice people in the resident's association. Thought of everything my brother might possibly ask and put the information in as simple a form as possible.
Not even any point reading the meters yet. Anyway we carried on and picked up all the things that are too difficult for me to bring home on the bus in my niece's car and brought them here - left my ancient dolly truck and 3 slightly tatty edging panels outside, I'm hoping someone steals them, squeezed everything else inside.
Over the weekend I've done lots of tidying (hunting for any missing receipts)so far there are 4 sacks off paper, 2 bin bags and 3 smaller rubbish bags, 3 sacks of cans, bottles and tins, brought a tangle of coat hangers down to dry clothing inside the house, clean clothes and bedding went upstairs and I'm still sizing up pieces of furniture to see if I can arrange things more usefully (and in less space). The rest of the evening will be pampering, reading and maybe watching a film - still have one I missed seeing at film club and it's that long ago they've done a sequel. I'll bounce back tomorrow.
Was wondering why the laptop wasn't letting my do anything but the extension plug had been pulled out a bit10 -
Hello everyone, and hugs for you, oceanspirit, and hope you have done good news about it your Mum. Yes, like everyone else, I am delighted that you, Mrs SD are going to continue encouraging us all next year. Speaking for myself, I don’t know how I would manage without you and you, my friends keeping me on the decluttering right path or should it be rail? .
Like Vulpix, I really enjoy the lovely atmosphere on here and hearing the day to day stories - it’s like bring back at work . at lunchtime , as you say, Vulpix.
I have been making a huge effort to get to my total. I had a relapse in a CS , with a fill a bag for 3 euros offer, but what I got was either brand new or nearly new and will save me lots. Total now
1 pile old Christmas wrapping paper
1 pile admin paper
1 smal pile of Christmas cards. I sent these ones which were ones I had been keeping from earlier years as I liked the pictures. I only ever looked at them once a year and I realized how pointless it was to keep them. After all , this is a MSE site.
1 pair trousers- too tight yet never worn !
12 books
Total- 336+16=352/365
Oh dear, 13 to go.
I will try really hard tomorrow to get to my 365.
The word is RUTHLESS.
Keep safe everyone xx11 -
Sorry, Oceanspirit, that should read that I hope you have some good news about your Mum. Big hugs.10 -
Hi, just popping in to say Ikea have real Christmas trees reduced to £12 if that is of interest to anyone.
No decorations for us as the builder should come next week to take the fire place out and move a radiator in the sitting room.
Sorry to hear about your Mum Ocean spirit. It is so discombobulating for everyone with a hospital admission. I hope she is feeling better and back home soon. My MIL is still in hospital but they keep moving her without telling us. It's hunt the old lady when we go!
Also sorry to hear about the house sale Grandmanerd.Grrrrrrrrr.
siebrie, also grrrrrr with the doors. Love your description of the jumper.

@oceanspirit I hope your mum is doing well. Do take care of yourself.
A few cards posted. Small.tree and a few decorations up but hoping dd2 will do some. Working long hours and got.to.work out when I can take more leave. Don't know what to.get girls for Xmas 18 and 25. Dd1 set up a WhatsApp group for father Xmas as will have stocking when she comes round. She called it ' no socks or.cotton wool' to be fair I think the cotton wool was wrapping something. Looking to see any things I can regift/rehome.
Other day did give dd1 a parcel arrived for her and also a few things incl cleaning things I never use
Looked out wrapping paper so no-one has to buy any!
Also moved computer to my bedroom as warmer than study which I still haven't sorted a carpet for. Is further from the fridge so may help declutter llbs or reduce more cluttering of them11 -
Hugs oceanspirit and some very gentle hugs for your mum10

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
2. Deal with Old Frogs & potential frogs ASAP but at least one on FROG Fridays.
3. Reduce/Restrict time watching TV during daylight hours 😉 AB2 playing zero - 20/9/2022
4. Declutter/Relocate one item every time I stand up.
5. Don’t put it down, put it away
6. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bedForgot to mention that we had a two minute power outage on Sunday morning 🙁 Monday has been cold & most of the snow is still lying on the garden & bushes/trees. DSis went to P.O. & sent her parcels - hopefully will enter the system before the strikes set in 🤞I have done practically nothing today apart from sleep & a few rows of knitting. Although I did help DH make the first meal from this week’s HF Box - chicken & mushroom pie, mash & peas. DH & DSis thoroughly enjoyed it but I was unimpressed 😔 DH also braved the cold & filled the bird feeders.
I will do the wudupa before I go to bed 😉
2142 - 2143 Kitchen recycling & detritus dealt with.It was a bit of a surprise Floss 😬 as the snow had been forecast for midnight 😔 Of course the snow has caused chaos in London 😔 Loving that your son texted you to let you know about the snow 😂
I am blushing even more TC77 ☺️ As to bringing less stuff in perhaps each time you resist the temptation you could put aside a £ or 50p & after 3 months see how much you have saved & treat yourself then 🤔 Good luck with your 2023 book cull 🍀
bit_by_bit, If DH is pleased with his medal think how chuffed he will be if he does something to earn a Gold Star 😉 I agree that shutting down traditional markets is shameful especially when they are replaced by homogenised shopping centres. Makes me angry & depressed in equal measure - not only does it put people out of work but it takes all the joy out of shopping 😖 Hopefully your day of rest & some TLC will stop the sore throat taking hold 🤞
vulpix, I hope your wall insulation project can be effected quickly & cost effectively 🤞& that the snow holds off for a while allowing you to shop safely & in ninja style 😉 You are very welcome vulpix. I originally joined MSE in 2018 specifically to declutter the house in France when my DSis decided to sell up & move back to England & I took over the mantle of coordinating the Decluttering thread from 2019. I was so naive in the ways of decluttering 🤣 but with the encouragement of many lovely people I was inspired to continue 👏 As an aside, I noticed, whilst checking back on when I joined, that the 2018 Thread was 160 pages 🥲 & this year we have reached 506 pages with a couple more weeks to go 😄 Proof positive that when we share our successes & challenges & offer praise & encouragement to each other we can make decluttering an almost fun ‘hobby’ - notice I said almost 😅 It costs us nothing to be kind to each other ☺️ Oops, sorry for pontificating 😔
Excellent decluttering Wednesday2000 👏 Perhaps you could do the 1p Savings Challenge to save up for Christmas? If you do it from 1st January to 30th September you would have over £370 pounds saved 🙂
So sorry to hear about your mum oceanspirit 🙁 A worrying time but hopefully the doctors can discover the cause of her collapse, put a treatment plan in place & get her home in time for Christmas especially as she has you & your sister to care for her. Sending good wishes & positive vibes her way. Good luck with finishing your Christmas preparations 🍀
Lovely to have a neighbour to share the work of clearing up snow, florianatwobob ☺️
Excellent work roundtuit 👏
What a pain Siebrie 😖 It sounds like practice makes perfect so hopefully you & your husband can get the last door sorted in double quick time 🤞Loved your description of the sizing of the top 🤣
Excellent decluttering daisy_1571 👏 Pleased to hear that you will be joining us again in 2023 🙂. What is not to enjoy - I have dozens of fellow declutterers who keep me going & it is lovely to have such a large ‘family’ ☺️ruby_eskimo, what a lovely thing to say ☺️ Bearing in mind how several of you are already thinking about & planning for next year, I will set up the 2023 Thread tomorrow 🙂 Really love the idea of condensing your goals into ONE Descriptive word & what a marvellous word you have chosen - SIMPLIFY. I see that florianatwobob is already on board 🙂 Excellent decluttering 👏
Oh poopy grandmanerd 🙁 Not too sure disappointment would be the word I would use - you are being so kind 😇 Excellent work in your home 👏 Everything crossed that your plans for furniture rearrangement create more space 🤞 Hope you enjoyed your evening of pampering - you have earned it ☺️Another one making me blush, retiredinfrance ☺️ Excellent decluttering 👏 and I adore your choice of word - RUTHLESS 😁 I know you will hit your target - after all there is a Gold Star waiting to be sent 😉 No need to apologise for your ‘lapse’ - a bag of brand new or nearly new & useful stuff for €3 🤩
Thanks for the information about Ik*a Christmas trees vulpix 👏 and what a lovely, supportive post ☺️ Siebrie’s description of the jumper was just perfect 🥲
Another lovely post TC77 ☺️ Hopefully you can get some time off work so you have the energy to finish off prepping & can enjoy a relaxed Christmas 😌 Enjoy the warmth in your interim office 👏MrsSD 🏅🏅🏅🏅🥇 🌟 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
