  • I popped into the Oxfam shop on the way home from the museum this afternoon and snapped up this mini cake tray and a bottle brush with a glad heart. I've been eyeing this size of baking tray on the web for ages but not taking the plunge as I'd use it very rarely so to get such a good quality one second hand is perfect and judging by the sleeve being firmly stuck on it's never been used. I'm also ecstatic about the bottle brush as mine is a silicon one with a rather thick central spindle and doesn't fit into some smaller bottle necks.

I have got so much baking kit that I have never used (time) and am now unlikely to ever use because of the cost of switching the oven on. Times are getting quite desperate now :(
I don't think I told you how much I admire your new kitchen particularly the island and how much natural light it gets. Hopefully things will change in the next few years and then we'll all be able to get back to using our ovens again. I suppose the silver lining might be that there is less bakeware generally available so that those of us with full cupboards could sell our tins and trays online for inflated prices.

  • ^^ What you can't see are the massive cake tins snd Bundt pans stacked at the back of the cupboards!

Lots are BN, but much of the silicone ware comes from the chazzer as they are much more reasonably priced.
Oh I can see some intriguing equipment here and am longing to ask about your experiences with silicon pans and the rectangular spring-form pan on your top shelf. Fantastic collection as well as great stacking skills, thankyou for the photo.

Did the rounds of Northallerton today but nothing of interest to be had.  Touching to see all the flowers and messages left in the designated space in the high street tho.

@Cherryfudge. At long last I’m going to be in Bedale in time for the car boot sale next Saturday!  What is the best time to get there please?

Must admit my brain won't allow spring form pans....I keep expecting the cake batter to leak out!  (yes, silly)

As for silicon pans - I've only got 2 tiddly ones bought for the express purpose of taking the extra muffin batter that won't fit in the 12 muffin tray.  They're mini loaf ones, about 4 inches long and 2 across.  They work very nicely, ungreased, but need to be on a tray before filling.  Because of the weight of the batter (banana oatmeal, very dense) they tend to bulge a bit in the midsection which of course metal pans wouldn't do.  Wash up easily but never actually look/feel clean to me.

So sorry @“Miró", I’ve only just seen this. It’s generally all packing up by 12, but I’m not an early bird so I don’t know what’s the best time to arrive. This week’s was much smaller than usual, between the rain and people staying in to watch the king being proclaimed.

I don't think your brain is being silly at all. In my admittedly very small experience with spring form clips they tend to jam not entirely closed so that you can't move them either way and then the lever bends at its hinge but this may be because the only two I ever bought weren't good quality.

I'm thinking of volunteering at my favourite BHF shop as they're currently asking for volunteers so was wondering what advice people on here would give me, is there anything I should ask when they get in touch and that sort of thing.
