@goldfinches
Shein is effectively sweat shop clothing, sold from a mass producer (China I think) type thing.
Think Primark fast fashion but being sold from the wholesaler directly.
Faster than fast fashion probably because it never hits a store. Loved by (atypically) the younger generation who buy an outfit for a day and then donate/bin

@goldfinches, did you have any luck with the books? I was going to suggest that if you had boring shops around you, you might just revert to Food and Drink (oxfam.org.uk) but... well, when I went and checked their website for a link, I ended up buying two books, so I'd better not recommend them, had I?goldfinches said:
Thankyou very much for the help, I'm definitely thinking of giving the shop a ring in the morning. Why is it that money insists on leaping out of one's purse? I'd be so much richer if I just spent the rest of my life somewhere that the shops were boring.Cherryfudge said:
I found this: Bake: Beautiful baking recipes from around the world by Edward Gee (goodreads.com) Not one I've come across myself but there are some very positive reviews.goldfinches said:I did try to pop into the Barnardo's shop but they had shut at bang on 5pm so I just had a quick look in the window and spotted this copy of The Food Lab for which they want £10 so I'm going to think about it overnight and maybe I'll give them a ring in the morning. I can't track down the other book in the photo and couldn't see the spine from outside so if anyone recognises the cover I'd be grateful for the information.
Night all and sweet dreams, goldfinches.

Of course as it's a charity you will all want to know what I got but I've only just ordered so I'll let you know when they come through (in case any were sold while I was checking out).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I went to get my hair cut today and I saw it was close to the Southend Mencap store. I went in afterwards and it isn't a big shop at all, but it had a few items I wanted.
I bought a black and white midi spotted dress and black sheer blouse, both Papaya which is Matalan. I bought two pairs of men's shorts and a man's black belt. I also got a unicorn teddy for my dog to chew up. That all came to £15.
I did see some bowls by the register, but they were too small for cereal. They were quite nice, blue and yellow and the lady said they would be good for olives. Hmm. I might buy them next time if they are still there. 4 for £2.4 -
We have some tiddly bowls that are good to put that one cracked egg in while you wait for a reason to use it, a couple of little tomatoes to add to a dinner, cornichons, capers, small amount of some ingredient that you need to measure out but want to put the big pack out of the way, dipping sauces. And olives.Wednesday2000 said:I did see some bowls by the register, but they were too small for cereal. They were quite nice, blue and yellow and the lady said they would be good for olives. Hmm. You do quite well finding your own scarves.

We sometimes have olives and antipasti bits and I like to set the table nicely. Bit of a pain washing up afterwards though.4
